While Devon in the summer is akin to paradise, the autumn months in the county are pretty spectacular too, especially when the leaves start changing colour and the delicious foods start making their way onto the region’s menus.
Here are a few reasons why you should visit Devon this autumn.
- It has lots of beautiful woodland for admiring the gold and red leaves
The leaves taking on those russet colours is one of the best things about autumn and you can enjoy it first hand by visiting one of the county’s many woodlands for a gentle and peaceful stroll. Of course, we always recommend Dartmoor for tranquil, wooded walks, but Plymbridge Woods are also idea for this time of year.
- The weather is even better for surfers!
We say this a lot, but Devon is the surfing capital of the UK, particularly towards the north of the county. Coastal areas like Croyde, Woolacombe and Putsborough are incredible places to surf and the autumn months create even better surfing conditions. Yes, we know the water tempreture is lower, but the windy weather means bigger waves!

- The food
Devon is home to an enormous natural larder so it’s the perfect destination for foodies especially if you want to sample some incredible autumnal flavours. From local ciders to the very best, creamy custard, Devon in the autumn is a foodie dream!
- Getting to take your dog to the beach
Because the beaches are so popular during the summer months, dogs are often relegated to small sections or not allowed entirely, however in the autumn months, you can find a whole host of beaches that you’re welcome to visit with your furry friends!
