Once an ancient coaching inn, this sophisticated, luxury hotel retains its historic charm whilst offering all the modern comforts you’d expect. Located in the centre of Barnstaple, the Royal & Fortescue Hotel is a gem, ideally located for exploring Barnstaple and the surrounding North Devon area. At the head of Barnstaple’s historic high street, you are just a few steps away from tempting designer shops, the ancient pannier market and the theatre.
There are 49 attractive rooms available to choose from at this luxury hotel. Most of the rooms have recently been refurbished and have a fresh contemporary style, quality soft furnishings and all the little touches that really make a difference.
The Percival suite is out of this world and must be one of the most beautiful hotel rooms in the whole of Devon. As well as the main hotel, there is also a set of charming rooms in the Courtyard. Luxury extras including freshly cut flowers can be ordered to greet you on arrival, making your stay at the Royal and Fortescue even more special.
All our rooms offer the following facilities as standard: Free WiFi, telephones, en-suite bathrooms, LCD TV with Freeview, luxury toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities, free parking and lifts. We want everyone to have the best experience at our hotels, so do let the staff aware if you have any requirements.
This Georgian luxury hotel was originally a coaching inn and gained the right to add the word ‘Royal’ to its name after a visit in 1856 from the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII.). Steeped in history, this elegant building has a vibrant convivial atmosphere, with two restaurants to choose from, as well as a gorgeous lounge bar and a sleek new cocktail bar, there really is nowhere better to unwind. Today, the Royal & Fortescue is part of Brend Hotels, a collection of eleven privately owned luxury hotels as well as a number of fine restaurants.
You can choose from two great restaurants, either the elegant Lord Fortescue Restaurant or the lively bistro, 62 The Bank. The Lord Fortescue Restaurant offers first class cuisine in a lavish setting, opulent furnishings and attentive staff create a special luxury dining experience.
62 The Bank is a fashionable bar and bistro adjoining the Royal & Fortescue, where you can enjoy superb food and a vibrant atmosphere every day until late.
We use the finest fresh foods, locally sourced in Devon. There are some amazing local foods produced right here in the county and our talented team of chefs take ingredients from local suppliers that we know and trust to create amazing dishes. Not only does this cut down on food miles, it also means that our menus always feature dishes that are brimming with local flavour and wholesomeness.
The welcoming public areas are buzzing with atmosphere, whilst the luxury accommodation is blissfully serene. Whilst staying at the The Royal & Fortescue Hotel you can also use the leisure facilities at our sister hotel, The Barnstaple Hotel for free.
With a choice of function rooms, the Royal & Fortescue is also perfect for a business event, wedding reception or a special celebration. Special occasions need a special venue and the Royal & Fortescue is the place to celebrate in style. Whatever your occasion, we can turn it into an event that you and your guests will remember forever. With us, there are so many options, from a buffet or banquet in Lord Fortescue’s Restaurant, to the lively Bistro atmosphere at 62 the Bank, to an intimate private dinner in the Florence Suite, which is perfect for conferences and seminars.
