Ilfracombe

Ilfracombe is home to a whole host of world-famous attractions including Ilfracombe Aquarium. Visitors will also find the unique Tunnel Beaches, museums, leisure parks and manor houses all within walking distance of the centre.

Located in the north of Devon, Ilfracombe is well placed for you to enjoy the stunning coastline of the area. There are many fine and award-winning beaches, from secluded coves to wide stretches of golden sands with crashing surf. The Tunnels beaches in Ilfracombe are a fascinating place to visit and many of the surrounding beaches are holders of blue flag awards, they’re good for bathing, rock pool exploring and water sports.

It isn’t just the beach that brings people to this charming town. There are festivals and events held throughout the year, many of which are based in the historic harbour, which is perfect for a gentle stroll. There is also the Ilfracombe Fish Trail, which offers visitors the chance to take a tour around the bustling working harbour. Coastal walks are a popular attraction and offer some amazing views.

It isn’t surprising to hear that Ilfracombe has a reputation as the culinary and cultural hub of North Devon. Visitors frequently refer to it as the new St Ives. The town is home to artist Damien Hirst’s famous sculpture Verity and this link to art is celebrated with the many galleries featuring a mix of local and international artists. Make sure to keep your eyes open for the art trails, festivals and other creative events that regularly take place in the town.

The picturesque harbour town is steeped in history and remains one of the most popular fishing ports in North Devon. You’ll see this reflected in the extensive menus on offer, give the restaurants on Fore Street and in the harbour area, here are where you’ll find high-quality menus featuring amazing seasonal produce.

If you’re coming to Ilfracombe for a family holiday, there are lots of local attractions to keep the children entertained. Ilfracombe Aquarium is an award-winning establishment that offers a whole host of themed events and activities as well as the chance to explore the world beneath the sea. The Tunnels Beaches are full of fascinating history as is Watermouth Castle, which combines a theme park with fairground rides, gardens and the remains of the Victorian castle.
