Defending champion Reg Bamford of South Africa, one of the most successful players in the history of the sport, will return to East Devon later this month to compete in the Golf Croquet Open Championships 2026 at Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club.

The championships, taking place from 23rd to 28th June, will attract leading players from the UK and overseas to one of the country’s premier croquet venues overlooking Lyme Bay.

The event comprises two major tournaments:

  • Golf Croquet Open Doubles Championship – 23 to 24 June
  • Golf Croquet Open Singles Championship – 25 to 28 June

All eyes will be on Bamford as he attempts to retain the title he won at Budleigh last year. Widely regarded as one of the greatest croquet players of all time, Bamford has amassed an extraordinary record of success on the international stage and remains one of the sport’s biggest names.

The championships will also feature a host of other top-class players representing countries from around the world, reinforcing Budleigh Salterton’s growing reputation as a centre for international croquet.

Spectators are welcome throughout the championships, and admission is free. Matches will also be streamed live, allowing croquet enthusiasts worldwide to follow the action from Budleigh Salterton.

The tournament forms part of the club’s preparations for hosting the inaugural World Croquet Federation Over-60 World Championships in August 2027, another major international event that will bring players and visitors from around the world to East Devon.
