There are a whole host of events taking place all over the county and something to suit everyone – whatever your age, so check out some of these suggestions and have a great half term in Devon this October.

Running throughout half term, head to Canonteign Falls for a spooky code breaking treasure hunt, which is free with your entry. Kids will also get to join in with a pumpkin colouring competition and you can do all the usual fun, including the alpaca experiences.

Spook Fest at Crealy
Sidmouth Road, Clyst St Mary, Exeter EX5 1DR

The popular Halloween event is back at Crealy – Spook Fest runs on 14th, 15th, 20th and 29th October and features some new attractions including Creaky Hotel, Dino Jeepers Creepers and a return of familiar favourites like Treehouse Trools, Scarecrow mazes and amazing live shows!

Project Buzz
Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, Queen Street, Exeter EX4 3RX

Project Buzz is a creative arts project with 12 different community groups from around Exeter. The free exhibition features art produced by local children as well as local artists and a chance to learn more about the natural world.

Boo at the zoo

Held on 27th and 28th October, head to Dartmoor Zoo for two frightfully good evenings, the event is suitable for most families, but keep an eye on the map to avoid some of the scarier areas if you have young children!

Storytelling at The Box

Running every Friday morning from 6th October and perfect for under 5s – these free events are a great way to get out of the house and explore the museum.

Family fun: Blooming Marvellous

A chance to delve into the National Gallery’s Dutch Flowers exhibition running at The Box, with an array of creative activities from 24th-28th October.

Harvest Weekend at Buckland Abbey
Buckland Abbey Yelverton, Plymouth PL20 6EY

Join us for harvest displays of produce grown at Buckland Abbey and learn more about the history of the estate. There will also be seasonal Tudor cooking to sample and pumpkin spotting around the Abbey.

Magic and Myths at Saltram
Saltram, Plymouth PL7 1UH

Starting on 21st October, follow the trail around the gardens to discover the folklore of the area. Collect a wand at the Welcome Centre and cast spells around the gardens and keep an eye out for the pumpkins.

Running from 25th -28th October, head to Torre Abbey after dark for a spooky Halloween adventure, with illuminations, projections and a Halloween themed selection of treats and games.

Autumn Adventures at Coleton Fishacre

Head to the National Trust’s Coleton Fishacre for their free Wild Colour trail and take part in Wild Wednesdays from 18th – 25th October.

Autumn wonders at Greenway

Free with your entry, the Autumn Wonders trail looks at how the natural world changes during this season with a free guide for a family trail.

Halloween fun at Becky Falls

This year’s activity include pumpkin carving and a chance to win a family season ticket for visits next year!

Half term fun at River Dart Country Park
