Internationally acclaimed chamber orchestra London Concertante will be in Exeter on Friday 5th September for a 7.30pm performance at Exeter Cathedral.

Set amidst the gentle glow of candlelight, the programme celebrates some of the greatest works in the classical repertoire, from Mozart’s effervescent overture to The Marriage of Figaro to Vivaldi’s visionary Four Seasons. Rounding off the evening is Vaughan Williams’s exquisite The Lark Ascending, a piece adored for its soaring, lyrical solo violin.

The star soloist will be violinist Simon Hewitt Jones. He has appeared as a featured violinist at many UK and international festivals and concert series, including the Henley and Spitalfields festivals. In 2011, he appeared with Diego Masson and the Ramallah Orchestra performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto in Jerusalem, and co-curated a concert tour called 'Road to Jericho', featuring contemporary British and Palestinian music in concerts both in the UK and in the Middle East. He is also a session violinist in London, where he has appeared on several film soundtracks, recordings and broadcasts for BBC, EMI, Virgin, and Universal Music.

London Concertante is delighted to be bringing this spectacular programme to Exeter. Having captivated audiences for over three decades, the ensemble is frequently cited as the perfect orchestra for first-time concertgoers, reflecting its devotion to enriching the cultural landscape in every performance.

The stunning surroundings of Exeter Cathedral, illuminated by hundreds of flickering candles, will create a truly unforgettable atmosphere.

Chris Grist, Artistic Director of London Concertante, commented:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be performing in Exeter, bringing this magical candlelit concert to such a historic and beautiful venue. The combination of a breathtaking setting, enchanting candlelight, and an outstanding soloist – supported by our orchestra – promises an evening of pure musical magic.”
