Planning a trip to Devon this summer? There are an overwhelming number of accommodation options to choose from, so if you want to keep it simple, why not opt for a spot of camping? Not only is this a budget-friendly option, but the majority of campsites are happy for you to bring your dogs with you and let’s be honest, waking up with the sun and enjoying breakfast out in the open is a rite of passage. It’s a quintessentially British way to spend your holidays, so here are a few options for great camping break in Devon.
One of our favourite places to go camping is the Mid Devon region, purely because there is countryside as far as the eye can see. It’s an ideal place to really escape everyday life and enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with a camping holiday.
Langstone Manor Holiday Park is on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park in the charming town of Tavistock and offers the perfect escape for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle. They have several accommodation options, including level pitches for tents, tourers and motor homes, as well as modern, heated shower and toilet facilities. The site has a policy of no loud music and being hidden away in the depths of the countryside, there’s no traffic noise either, so you can sit back and relax to the sound of birds singing.
Though one of the perks of camping is being able to immerse yourself in nature, sometimes you just want to have your cake and eat it – which is why these campsites give you the best of both worlds.
Cofton Holidays, located in Starcross in South Devon, is a family-friendly holiday park with a bit of everything. At Cofton, there are amazing camping pitches, suitable for a wide range of tents and featuring some of the best onsite facilities on offer. The toilet and shower facilities are incredibly modern and are heated by a eco-friendly biomass system – making your trip even more sustainable! Not only that, but Cofton has a wide range of activities and leisure facilities to keep you entertained while you’re on-site too. Some of these facilities do have an additional charge, but there are a huge number that are free to all guests, including evening entertainment, fishing at the lakes and the soft play centre. You can also make use of the bike track, sports courts, kid’s club and the outdoor pool!

If you fancy being in the Torbay region, Lady’s Mile is in the Dawlish, home to the famous black swans and close to Torquay, Teignmouth and Paignton. Here there are a series of touring and camping pitches with different options to choose from depending on your preference. The site is also home to award-winning swimming pools that are said to be the warmest in south Devon! You’ll find a gym and an arcade on site too.
Another option is Woodlands Grove Caravan and Camping Park. Located near Totnes this park is next door to Woodlands Family Theme Park and guests receive free entry to the park throughout their stay! This site really is ideal if you want the option to spend the day enjoying some thrilling activities, but also want to be able to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the peace and quiet. The campsite has glorious views of the countryside and is close to Totnes, Dartmouth and places like Blackpool Sands, giving you plenty of options of things to do during the day.
Similarly, Crealy Resort and Theme Park offer camping and their breaks come with exclusive access to the theme park and regular evening entertainment. Crealy Resort is a safe and secure family retreat, just a short walk from the theme park and is the ultimate destination for a play-cation! Whether you’re a seasoned camper or giving it a go for the first time, Crealy have everything you need to have a great holiday, including luxury toilet and shower facilities and fully serviced camping pitches.
If you’re not sure about a theme park but definitely want some adventure, then you need to book a camping trip to Roadford Lake. Located on the border with Cornwall and just a short drive from Dartmoor, Roadford Lake is one of the ultimate adventure activity sites in the region. The campsite offers grass, hard standing, electric and non-electric pitches, as well as glamping options if you need a compromise between camping and a hotel stay! As well as getting to enjoy nights under the stars, you can also enjoy a host of onsite activities including kayaking, archery, cycling, sailing and more and all activities are family-friendly, so no matter your age or ability, there will be something here for you. There is even a chance to toast some marshmallows, either outside your temporary home or at the communal BBQ area.
