A brand-new café inspired by one of Dartmoor’s most iconic walking routes opens today. The Abbot’s Way Café will officially welcome customers from Thursday 26 March, offering a warm and inviting space for locals, walkers, and visitors alike.

Named after the historic Abbot’s Way trail that crosses the heart of Dartmoor, the café celebrates the spirit of the moor — combining great coffee, relaxed surroundings, and a connection to the outdoors. Inside, the walls are adorned with those who have walked the Abbot’s Way, including monks and staff from Buckfast Abbey, creating a unique visual tribute to the route’s rich heritage.

The café will be open daily, serving high-quality barista coffee alongside a delicious selection of cakes and light snacks. Whether stopping by for a quick refreshment or settling in for a longer visit, guests can enjoy both indoor seating and a pleasant outdoor area.

To mark the opening, the café was blessed by Abbot David Charlesworth OSB ahead of welcoming the public — a special moment that reflects the history and inspiration behind The Abbot’s Way. Images from the blessing are being shared to commemorate the occasion.

Adding to the celebrations, the author of The Real Abbot’s Way, Nick Pannell, book is present today for a special book signing, offering visitors the opportunity to purchase a copy and meet the writer behind the story.

With its combination of great coffee, friendly atmosphere, and a nod to Dartmoor’s rich heritage, The Abbot’s Way Café is set to become a favourite destination for both locals and visitors.
