Explore the landscapes of North Devon this May as the National Trust hosts the North Devon Walking Festival, running from Monday 11 to Saturday 16 May to celebrate National Walking Month.

The festival features a varied programme of guided walks led by National Trust rangers, garden teams and local experts, taking in locations such as the valleys of Lorna Doone, the dramatic coastline of Heddon Valley, the historic parkland of Arlington Court and the peaceful surroundings of East Titchberry.

With options ranging from gentle strolls to more challenging full day hikes, the programme offers plenty of opportunities to discover North Devon’s wildlife, history and conservation work while enjoying time outdoors.

Highlights include scenic walks through the Doone Valley, coastal routes from Heddon Valley to Woody Bay with sweeping views across the Bristol Channel, and a range of walks at Arlington Court, from shorter guided routes to longer 5 and 8 mile estate hikes.

A sunset photography walk at Woolacombe offers a creative way to experience the coast and for those looking for a slower pace, a guided walk at East Titchberry explores wildlife rich habitats and historic farmland.

Alice East, Senior Visitor Experience Officer for North Devon, said: “The North Devon Walking Festival is a wonderful way to experience the diversity of this landscape. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed walk or a more challenging hike, these guided walks give people the chance to explore special places, learn about their history and wildlife, and meet the teams who look after them.”

All festival walks are £3 per person, with the photography walk priced at £6. Normal admission charges apply for Arlington Court’s Top Trees walk. Booking is essential for all events except the Top Trees walk.
