South Devon Railway’s hugely popular Summer Rails & Ales event returns over the August Bank Holiday weekend .

Join this epic on track celebration of steam and diesel engines coupled with a range of over 40 different real ales, seven craft beers and 10 ciders to sample at the Festival Bar.

There’s also live music from local bands on Saturday evening, and a Quiz Night on the Sunday.

Whether you're a railway enthusiast, a beer and cider connoisseur, music lover, or just someone looking for a late summer treat, the festival has something for everyone.

Jump aboard South Devon Railway and enjoy craft ales, tasty BBQ, live music and the stunning valley of the River Dart this bank holiday weekend.

Based at Staverton Station, entry to the beer festival is only available to those with railway tickets.

You can purchase either a standard return ticket for travel between Buckfastleigh and Totnes or a great value £10 return ticket to Staverton only, perfect for getting to and from the event in heritage style and comfort.

For those who want to make a day of it, the Ranger ticket allows you to ride the rails with your chosen tipple at any time.

Plus, if you arrive after 6pm all single and return tickets are half price. This discount is available at the booking office or by using ALES24 online.

Trains will be running all day with departures from Buckfastleigh and Totnes Riverside at frequent intervals. Totnes Riverside station is a 450m walk from the mainline station and bus stop; perfect if you arrive via public transport.

There is a large FREE car park available at Buckfastleigh and there are nearby bus stops for routes between Plymouth and Exeter. There is NO PARKING available at Staverton so it is strongly recommended to get to the festival via the heritage trains.

The Festival BBQ will be running from midday to 8pm daily (except Monday) and the Staverton Buffet Coach is open between 10am and 4pm serving pasties, cakes and hot & cold drinks.

The multi-award-winning South Devon Railway is one of Devon’s and the West Country’s best loved tourist attractions and is the longest established steam railway in the South West, celebrating over 50 years in preservation.
