Thirty selected guests from a local charity enjoyed a free three-course dinner at favourite French high street restaurant Bistrot Pierre this week, paid for by loyal customers.
As part of its annual Christmas initiative to support charity workers and those in need of support within the community, Bistrot Pierre hosted the dinner for Age UK Plymouth, which works to bring people together through collective interests.
During the run-up to Christmas, Bistrot Pierre launched the scheme within its Plymouth-based restaurant, which donated a free meal to somebody within its partnered charity, for every Sunday party booking of six people or more that was made, which resulted in 30 free three course meals offered.
“I want to thank all the team at Bistrot Pierre for the best day I have had in a long time”, said one happy Age UK attendee. “Everyone was so welcoming and although there were lots of people attending everyone had time to talk to me. The meal was so lovely, and the staff were very kind and helpful. It has made me want to do more things as part of Age UK and I have booked a taster session for the daycentre and community cuppa.”
Age UK Plymouth works tirelessly supporting Plymouth’s community of over-50s with activities and drop-in advice clinics taking place across the city.
“We were thrilled to be welcomed to Bistrot Pierre”, said Tara Dale, head of fundraising at the charity. “Our members have expressed what fun they had, and how important it is for them to be able to socialise during such a challenging time. Thank you Bistrot Pierre for helping Age UK Plymouth once again and for such an uplifting experience.”
Age UK Plymouth is one of 17 local charities that Bistrot Pierre has partnered with nationally in this initiative - all chosen for their support of those struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and increased social isolation in their communities, from befriending schemes and dementia-focused musical programmes to housing and sight assistance initiatives.
“There is nothing more important than supporting our community”, says Matthew De Sousa, general manager of Bistrot Pierre Plymouth, “Our initiative has been designed to support those most in need in our local areas and celebrate our local Plymouth community. With Christmas feeling like a distant memory, the New Year can be a challenging time of year for any resident, but for the most vulnerable amongst us, there has never been more need for us to open our doors and welcome each other in.
“We really enjoyed welcoming each and every guest from Age UK Plymouth for a much-needed treat and an opportunity to create lasting memories together.”
