Obviously, we’re biased, but in our opinion, Devon is one of the most romantic places in the United Kingdom, which is why it is perfect for a Valentine’s Day break or day trip. Whether you want to get back to basics or you’re on a bit of a budget after the turmoil of the past few years, here are some of our favourite romantic activities that won’t break the bank.

Enjoy the night sky

Did you know that the Exmoor National Park was named the UK’s first Dark Skies Reserve? Well, basically, it means that the light pollution is so low there that you have perfect views of the night sky and there are fewer things more romantic than watching the stars. Pick a clear night and spend some time on Exmoor! Not that keen on being out in the elements? Well, most of Devon’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty have low light pollution, so book yourself a treehouse or a room with a balcony and view the sky that way!

Watch the sunset

Yes, we’re still on a bit of a sky theme here, but honestly, there is something very special about watching day turn into night and Devon is famous for the beauty of its sunsets. Head to Blackchurch Rock on the North Devon coast, if you time it just right, you’ll see the sun between the gaps in the rock creating the most beautiful backdrop for getting down on one knee or just revelling in each other’s company. Other places that are famous for how pretty the sunset looks are Woolacombe Bay and Westward Ho! also in North Devon. In South Devon, there is Bigbury Beach, where you can see the sunsetting behind Burgh Island. If the coast at this time of year isn’t your thing, make sure to head to Dartmoor – seeing the sunset among some of the more interesting natural landscapes on the moor is truly memorable!

Do something different

No two couples are the same and some of us have very different ideas as to what constitutes a special or romantic day out. Don’t worry though, Devon has lots of fun and unique activities for you to enjoy while spending time together. Why not meet some alpacas and take them for a walk? Or tour the region on a Segway? Alternatively, there are places where you can go climbing, caving, surfing, abseiling or even axe throwing! Check out some of the things you can do in Devon here.

Dine in style

When it comes to food and drink, Devon is full of options. Whatever your taste, you’ll find elegant fine dining restaurants full of locally sourced, seasonal dishes to suit every palate. Want to enjoy French cuisine? You can! Want to share fish and chips on the beach? Yep. Why not check out some of Devon’s best restaurants here.
