One thing we love about Devon is getting to hang out on the beach, especially during the summer when the whole county steps back to a simpler time and becomes the British seaside resorts that we know and love. For a comfortable place to call home during your trip to Devon that is right on the beach or with a sea view, check out these hotels and pack your bucket and spade ready for a wonderful holiday by the beach.
Perhaps one of the best well-known of Devon’s coastal destinations is the English Riviera where you can find a host of beautiful Regency period hotels with a sea view. One hotel overlooking the sea is the Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish. This family-run hotel has been providing relaxing holidays to Dawlish for over 70 years and with acres of land surrounding it, as well as the Exe Estuary and the sea on the doorstep, it’s a great option for those that love being out and about in the sun.
Similarly, nearby is the Cary Arms and Spa which can be found in nearby Babbacombe. Giving you easy access to the towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, this is a great hotel from which to explore the English Riviera and enjoy the waves gently crashing beneath your window. For somewhere with a dramatic view, check out the Imperial Torquay. Having stood in the same spot overlooking the sea since the 19th century, the Imperial Torquay offers breathtaking views, as well as a host of leisure activities. If you know you want to have a glimpse at the sea but also want to take advantage of a host of facilities including pools, games rooms, spas and more, check out the TLH Leisure Resort. Based in the heart of Torquay, this complex of hotels is inter-connected, so you can use the facilities, no matter which one you choose to stay in.

As we mentioned Regency hotels, one of the most famous of those from this era can be found right on the sea front at Sidmouth. The Royal York and Faulkner is perfectly located for enjoying the Lyme Bay and the Jurassic Coast. Another hotel with an unrivalled position looking over the Jurassic Coast is the Victoria Hotel – as one of the famous Brend collection of hotels the Victoria is full of luxuries and will make your stay truly special, whether you’re looking for a family break or a venue for a big celebration.
While South Devon is known for its beaches, some of the best in Britain can be found on the north coast. This part of Devon falls within the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and forms the UK’s first surf reserve because of the quality of the waves. It’s a popular spot for all watersports and you’ll love being able to lounge on the sand or watch from a window as paddleboarders, surfers and water skiers do their thing.
One of the things that draws people to this coastline is the rugged nature of the cliffs, something you can especially see at the Hartland Peninsula where you will find the Hartland Quay Hotel. This part of the coastline is famous for shipwrecks and once you’ve seen it, you’ll know why. Elsewhere in North Devon, you can enjoy the historic village of Clovelly and stay at the Red Lion. This ancient pub sits right on the harbour allowing you to live like a local and experience the sea breeze every day.
