Have a thrilling trip to Devon this summer by visiting one of the region’s many theme parks – whether you’re into making a splash on the wave machine and water coasters or you prefer whizzing through the air on some of the biggest rides in the South West, check out these parks.
Famous for its sheep racing, the Big Sheep is terrific whatever your age and is home to Devon’s popular and largest roller coaster, full of turns, swoops and drops, if your heart isn’t racing too much, you can also take in the incredible views across North Devon!
As well as rides and the resident animals, the site also has a selection of indoor and outdoor activities, entertainment and regular events, including their famous toddler festivals and other excitements during the school holidays. If the weather takes a turn, you can simply take the fun inside and visit Ewetopia, the site’s large indoor adventure play zone!
Also in North Devon is The Milky Way Adventure Park. Located close to Bideford and Clovelly, the Milky Way is a frequent winner of the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice, which it has received every year for the past five years! In recent years, the park has welcomed new features, including Ziggy’s Blast Quest where you can pilot a scooter and destroy astroids and join the whole family in the Ninja Stars games arena with tag active scoring!
In terms of rides, there are plenty to choose from and something for every age range, including the Cosmic Typhoon coaster and Gravity Rider.
If you’re at the other end of the county, take a trip to Woodlands Family Theme Park in Dartmouth. As Devon’s largest family theme park, Woodlands is perfect for a fun day out with a host of workshops and rides. Take on the largest watercoasters in Devon, explore the new interactive dinosaur area, 10 play zones and the zoo farm, it’s the place for families to unleash their inner super hero and have an adventure!
Of course, while we’re talking about watercoasters, we can’t not mention Splashdown Quaywest, the UK’s largest outdoor waterpark which is based in Paignton. With 8 adrenalin pumping rides, flumes, rapids and more, this is a great place for anyone wanting to make a splash this summer. Perhaps one of the most famous theme parks in Devon is Crealy Theme Park and Resort on the outskirts of Exeter. This site is home to the most rides in the county and has an exciting calendar of events throughout the year, especially during the school holidays. It is just minutes from the M5 and has over 60 indoor and outdoor attractions set in 100 acres of glorious countryside.
Crealy is perfect for a family day out because it caters for the whole family from the smallest of children to granny and grandpa – so no matter what your age or ability, you can find something to suit you. That’s on top of the mini zoo, undercover play area and extensive outdoor adventure area – if you can’t fit it all in, you could always book a stay at the next door Crealy Resort and never let the fun stop!
If you want to mix rides with getting up close and personal with some cute animals, head to Ottery St Mary where you can find Wildwood Escot. Full of amazing animals, mazes, adventure play areas, soft place, heart stopping rides and an authentic Saxon village, you’ll be spoilt for choice here.
In between rides, make sure to follow the timetable of feeds and talks so you can find out more about the various animals that call Wildwood home, there are even chances to walk through some of the enclosures for close up encounters!
