A last minute Olympic-themed break in the heart of Dartmoor National Park has been unveiled by a luxury Devon hotel.

Five-star hotel Bovey Castle, in Newton Abbot, is inviting guests to its resort to try up to five sports that will be on show at this summer’s Olympics (26 July to 11 August) and Paralympics (28 August to 8 September).

Archery, golf, air rifle shooting, tennis and cycling are all on offer to guests who opt to stay in one of the venue’s luxury three-bedroom lodges for a minimum of two nights before 31 August.

Guests can channel their inner Robin Hood at the venue’s dedicated archery range with expert guidance, before stepping out on to the hotel’s 18-hole Championship golf course which can be completed by a novice golfer in around four hours.

Tennis lovers have the choice of grass or hard court at Bovey Castle to ace their serve, while air rifle shooting sees guests challenged to hit scored target sheets, metal spinners and even rubber ducks with a synthetic gas-powered rifle.

Bovey Castle is also ideally located for the start of a road and mountain adventure, too, with electric mountain bikes and guided tours of Dartmoor available via Dartmoor Ebiking

Bovey Castle is one of Devon’s premier tourist destinations. Alongside the 60-bedroom manor house and 22 private lodges, the hotel offers fine dining in its 3AA Rosette Great Western Grill restaurant and 1AA Rosette Smith’s Brasserie; as well as its luxury Elan Spa experience.

Dean Gunston, General Manager at Bovey Castle, explained that the Olympic offering from the hotel comes at a time when more guests across the UK are booking last minute breaks.

He said: “The Olympics and Paralympics are iconic events that really capture the imagination of different generations – and with many families yet to commit to booking a summer break, we wanted to provide some sporting inspiration.

“Many families are now seeking stand-out experiences for their breaks, and our Olympic-themed break provides just that as there aren’t many places in the UK where you can try a variety of sports in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

“Multi-generational breaks continue to be popular too as families make up for lost time from the pandemic, and our three-bedroom luxury lodges provide the perfect place for some down time in between activities.

“We’ve had a strong start to the summer with guests travelling from as far as American and Australia, through to London and the Midlands – not to mention our loyal locals – and we are gearing up for a golden finish over the coming weeks as we expect to attract more than 6,000 guests between June and August.”
