There is loads of reasons why Devon should be your top destination in 2022, but if you still need some convincing, here’s why we think you should make it a priority to come to Devon this year.
Award winning beaches
Did you know the whole of Devon’s North Coast is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Did you know that there are over 20 Blue Flag beaches in the county? What about the fact that North Devon is the surfing capital of the UK? Or that there are dolphins and seals regularly visiting the coast? All the more reason to come to Devon for a beach holiday!
Cream teas
You haven’t lived until you’ve had a real Devon cream tea. Soft, crumbly, home made scones, locally produced cream and of course, home grown jam. You’ll find cream teas available at cafes, restaurants, hotels, tea rooms and even some B&Bs and guesthouses. Not only that, but there are cream teas for everyone, whether you’re gluten free, vegan or want something a little more special, you’ll find it here!
Two National Parks
Devon is lucky enough to have two National Parks on top of vast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In the northern end of the county, there is Exmoor which straddles the border of Devon and Somerset and towards the southern end there is Dartmoor. Both of these places are home to native, wild ponies and some of the most stunning scenery the UK has to offer. So, if you want a bit of adventure, somewhere for a quiet ramble or just the perfect picnic spot – Devon is the place to be!
Traditions by the bucketful
Sometimes you just want to get back to basics and Devon is the perfect place to do that. There are a host of traditional West Country events happening throughout the year that you just can’t experience anywhere else. From people carrying flaming tar barrels in Ottery St Mary and children rounding up the village adults all the to hunting an earl, charming worms and pouring cider on apple trees! For a truly unique, traditional experience, make sure to come to Devon for one of these regular festivals!
Its warmer than the rest of the UK
Yes, its true! Devon is one of the warmest places in the south west – so while we can’t guarantee you sunshine, we can guarantee that you will be warmer in Devon than anywhere else! The county’s micro climate is why the food and drink is so good!
