Planning a family day out in Devon this summer? Great Western Railway (GWR) has introduced a new fixed-price Family Day Out ticket, making it easier and more affordable to swap the car for the train and enjoy everything Devon has to offer.
The new ticket comes as GWR reports a sharp rise in bookings to destinations across its network, with Plymouth seeing bookings increase by 50% compared with last year. The figures highlight a growing trend for families choosing UK "railcations" and day trips, with Devon proving as popular as ever.
Whether you're heading to Exeter to explore its historic cathedral and independent shops, spending the day on the beautiful English Riviera in Torquay, discovering the waterfront in Plymouth, or enjoying the golden beaches of Dawlish, Teignmouth, Exmouth or Paignton, travelling by train offers a relaxing way to experience Devon without the stress of traffic or parking.
The Family Day Out ticket provides same-day return travel for up to two adults and four children for just £49 or £59 (depending on the journey), with Friends and Family Railcard holders able to save an extra £10 on eligible routes.
Available on weekdays until 4 September, the ticket is valid on GWR services across the South West, making it ideal for school holiday adventures. Many of Devon's most popular attractions, beaches and towns are within easy walking distance of railway stations, making it simple to enjoy a full day out without needing a car.

The announcement follows a number of measures designed to make family days out more affordable this summer, including the Government's rail fare freeze and temporary reduction in VAT on many visitor attractions.
