The expert panel has completed its work for the MyBiosphere 2026 Photo Competition, selecting a collection of images that capture the landscapes, wildlife, communities and special moments that make the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere unique.
The selected photographs are on display at The Planetary Lab in Barnstaple until midday on Friday 18th September, and at Pannier Pantry in Bideford on Saturday 19th September, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the Biosphere through the eyes of local photographers.
In a new development for 2026, exhibition visitors will be invited to take part in a Community Vote, choosing their favourite images from those on display. The final awards will be announced after the public voting period closes.
This year's competition attracted entries from across the Biosphere, showcasing everything from wildlife encounters and coastal scenes to community life, rivers, woodlands and everyday connections with nature.
Andy Bell, CEO of the North Devon Biosphere Foundation, said:
"One of the goals of the Biosphere is to help people notice, understand and value the places around them. The photographs submitted this year are a wonderful example of that. They reveal not only the beauty of northern Devon, but also the many ways people connect with nature in their daily lives. The quality of entries was exceptional and reflects the spirit of our new strategy, Living up to World Class by Nature, which encourages people to learn from nature and become active participants in shaping a positive future."
Louise Reynolds, Coordinator of the Biosphere Communities Project, said:
"What stands out most is the diversity of perspectives. Some images capture iconic landscapes, while others focus on overlooked details, local wildlife or meaningful community moments. Together they tell a powerful story about what the Biosphere means to the people who live, work and spend time here. We are excited to see visitors engaging with the exhibition and choosing their favourites."
Alice Mills, Director of The Planetary Lab, said:
"The Planetary Lab exists to educate, motivate and empower people to engage with the world around them. We are delighted to be hosting the MyBiosphere exhibition because it perfectly combines creativity, curiosity and local environmental understanding. Through these photographs, visitors will be able to explore North Devon through the eyes of their neighbours while reflecting on the places and species that make this area so special."
The exhibition forms part of a growing partnership between the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere and The Planetary Lab, both organisations sharing a commitment to learning, public engagement and helping people better understand the environments they depend upon. The Planetary Lab's new Barnstaple space creates opportunities for visitors to engage with science, creativity and environmental sustainability through interactive experiences and community programmes.
Further details about plans to announce the awards, will be announced shortly.
