Local traders in Budleigh Salterton are coming together to launch a new initiative, “Late Night Thursdays”, giving residents and visitors the chance to enjoy shopping and browsing after normal hours.

The scheme begins on Thursday 18th September, the day after the opening of the town’s highly successful Literary Festival. A wide range of shops and businesses across the town will keep their doors open until 7pm, creating a lively evening atmosphere and encouraging both locals and festival visitors to discover what Budleigh Salterton has to offer.

The initiative will run on a trial basis until Christmas, with participating traders opening later every third Thursday of each month. The aim is to give shoppers more flexibility, attract new customers, and showcase the town as a vibrant shopping destination outside of traditional hours.

A spokesperson for Shop Budleigh, the town’s traders’ group, said:
“Late Night Thursdays are about making our town centre even more accessible and welcoming. By working together, we hope to create a new buzz in Budleigh Salterton, supporting local businesses while giving people more reasons to visit in the evening.”

The monthly Late Night Thursdays will be held in addition to Budleigh Salterton’s much-loved Christmas Late Night Shopping event, which this year takes place on Thursday 28th November.

Residents and visitors alike are invited to explore the town’s shops, enjoy late-night browsing, and take part in this new community-focused initiative.
