The summer months are here and pretty soon, holiday season will be in full force. If you’ve not yet decided on your holiday this summer, let’s see if we can convince you to come to Devon with these incredible glamping sites!
Glamping is a great alternative to more traditional holidays – you get all the charm of camping but with all the luxuries of a hotel or self-catering cottage. There are a host of different options across Devon with everything from safari tents to shepherd huts to renovated vans and more! Here are some of our suggestions for great places to stay around the county.
If you’re planning a trip to North Devon, check out Hideout Treehouses, a collection of luxury treehouses and retreats with hot tubs. With the only treehouse in the UK with a bath on a rail, so you can enjoy a bubble bath either indoors or outside, they have a variety of treehouse options to enjoy, including Sleepy Owl. This hidden treasure is tucked away among the trees and is perfect for couples to spend together. The luxurious open plan living space has a huge sofa and a drop down cinema screen, so you can have romantic nights in! Here you can find super king sized beds, complimentary toiletries and Hypnos mattresses – so basically the very best camping can offer!

Another option for treehouses is Wolf Wood Treehouses. Combining luxury and wilderness, these treehouses can be found in the heart of a secluded woodland with each one perched high in the trees. It’s a good one for those that have a sense of adventure, as you access each property via a rope bridge. The treehouses are all built using local timber and feature your own private decks complete with a bath – ideal for stargazing.
For those of you who want to stay in the more rural areas of Devon, check out the sites in Mid-Devon. This region is a great option if you want to get out and explore as you are equi-distance from the coast and two National Parks.
The Orchard Retreat is an award-winning, family run cottage and glamping site set amongst some of the most beautiful surroundings in the country. The glamping offerings include locally handcrafted yurts nestled in an apple orchard. The yurts are all within a short stroll of their own private bathroom and further kitchen facilities, as well as having a range of activities available for guests to use, including a Badminton court and children’s play area.
As Mid-Devon is a good option for those that want to explore, it’s also the perfect place for anyone wanting to visit the Dartmoor National Park – camping (or glamping) is only allowed in designated areas, so if you want to sleep under canvas on or near the National Park, try somewhere like Dartmoor Glamping. Set on land historically used by the royals, you have the choice between shepherd huts or bell tents, complete with all the luxuries you could need for recuperating after a day out exploring Dartmoor. Outside the National Park, with incredible views over the park is Devon Yurt, an award winning site that is well known for both the quality of its accommodation and for its green credentials. Guests have access to hot showers, flushing toilets and there are washing machines and kitchen equipment all on site for you to use! Plus, much like traditional camping, there is the chance to make friends with a variety of animals, as the farm is home to rare breed sheep, ponies and chickens!

In Cullompton, which isn’t too far from Exeter and the Jurassic Coast, The Foxhill Estate has a large group of properties that sleep up to 14 people right in the heart of the countryside. Three of the properties are Dreamview Shepherds Huts and each comes complete with double beds, equipped kitchens, ensuite showers and lounge areas, plus your own outdoor area with a private hot tub. By staying here you are within easy reach of the Exmoor National Park, the Blackdown Hills, the Jurassic Coast and other famous landmarks, as well as a host of popular attractions.
The Jurassic Coast is one of the biggest draws for tourists to Devon – the coastline covers most of East Devon and is one of the most fascinating places in the South West to explore. There are a couple of places here, including Jurassic Glamping, which is just 10 minutes from the coast. This luxurious, yet laid-back glamping site is family and dog friendly, each tent sleeps up to six people and contains an internal bathroom with hot shower, basin and proper flushing and fully equipped kitchen, providing you with everything you need for a self-catering holiday.
One of the most popular places to visit in Devon is the south of the county. There are plenty of glamping sites in this region to visit too, including Dittisham Hideaway. Based near the delightful town of Dartmouth, Dittisham Hideaway is literally hidden away but is still close enough to civilisation, so all your amenities are close by. The site includes four luxury treehouses, spacious shepherd’s huts and a 1950s American Airstream, so you have a host of glamping options!
For those of you who are compromising on the camping experience, book a stay with Fountain Violet at Feather Down Farm. These high-end canvas lodges sleep up to six and are off-grid. Though there’s no electricity, you are supplied with plenty of wood, candles and more to keep you warm and provide you with a romantic atmosphere. A stay here is a great way to transition from traditional camping into glamping and your dogs are welcome to join you too!

If you want to be close to the English Riviera, head to Lady’s Mile Holiday Park in Dawlish where they have a series of Safari Tents, less than a mile from the Blue Flag beach at Dawlish Warren. By staying in one of these, you can use all the park’s facilities while also enjoying a glamping holiday, so it really is the best of both worlds. It’s a great option for families too as there are loads of kid’s entertainment programmes available, as well as swimming pools and other activities, ideal if you want to relax and not travel too far.
