An earlier Easter holiday in 2027 is expected to condense the school break calendar, creating greater overlap between holiday dates across England.
Research conducted by Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, based on the calendars of 100 English local authorities, suggests that demand for family holidays could become concentrated across a smaller number of weeks.
This could make it more difficult for families booking later to secure their preferred dates, accommodation type or destination for the 2027 school summer holidays.
Four Weeks of Complete School Holiday Overlap in 2027
The analysis examined where local-authority school holiday dates overlap and where schools breaking up partway through a week could limit families’ options for a full seven-night holiday.
The findings identify four consecutive weeks during which every area surveyed is expected to be on summer holiday in 2027. This compares with three weeks of complete overlap in 2026.
Overall, demand during the Easter and summer periods could be concentrated into approximately nine core school holiday weeks in 2027, compared with 11 weeks in 2026.
When school holidays are staggered across different areas, accommodation providers, attractions, restaurants and other tourism businesses can welcome families over a longer period. When the dates align more closely, demand becomes concentrated into fewer weeks, increasing competition for the most popular stays.
Larger Families and Accessible Stays Could Book Up First
Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks expects early planning to be particularly important for larger families, groups travelling together and guests with specific accommodation requirements.
Limited availability may be felt first among families looking for accessible holiday accommodation, larger properties, dog-friendly stays or accommodation with popular features such as a private hot tub.
Booking early gives families a wider choice of dates and accommodation while making it easier to coordinate school holidays and annual leave.
