Devon isn’t known as mother nature’s playground for nothing – it’s the perfect place for an adventure or two during the summer holidays, no matter what your age. However, if the teens in your life need some convincing, show them this list and prove that family holidays can still be fun!
Get surfing lessons
Did you know that the North Devon coastline is part of the UK’s first surf reserve? That means it’s up there with coastlines in Australia and places like California! Plus, there are few things cooler than surfing or paddleboarding or windsurfing – basically, water sports of all kinds are a must and are a great way to keep people of all ages entertained and with tutors and equipment hire located all over the coast, you can find sessions to suit all abilities too. Head to places like Croyde and Woolacombe for surfing or the Torbay for jetskiing. Alternatively, grab your paddleboards and have a go at SUP along the River Dart. Or for a chance to try out a range of sports and take on an aquatic assault course, head to the North Devon Wake Park in Bideford!
Zip wires and more
With daredevil activities that give you the chance to take on a high rope course, zip wires, kayaking and a host of other activities, River Dart Country Park is an excellent place for adventures. They have a full programme of activities so you can find something for everyone, there are even more leisurely options for those teens who want to head up into the tree tops or chuck themselves around the bike park!
If being up in the trees is something that does take their fancy, Tree Surfers in the Tamar Valley is a great option. As well as high ropes, there are also archery sessions, mountain biking and a host of other facilities to keep you entertained all day! Alternatively, Go Ape at Haldon Forest has an amazing obstacle course in the trees and the over 16s won’t even need to be supervised!
During the summer holidays, Skern Lodge offers a full programme of adventure activities which has everything from abseiling to surfing, so make sure to book a couple of sessions if you’re in the Bideford area!
Go off road
The Devon Activity Centre is the place to be if you want to get off the beaten track. With Go Karting, Segway Safaris, Laser Tag, Quad Bike Trails, Paintballing and just about everything else you can think of, this is the ultimate hub for outdoor activities guaranteed to get them off their phones!
In North Devon, there is Keypitts Offroad Adventures where you can go on 4x4 drives around their course. They have experienced drivers on site so you don’t have to worry about anyone breaching the terms of their provisional licences or you can team up and take on Battlezone archery – it’ll certainly help work out some frustration!
