"An oasis at the heart of Dartmoor" is how the Sunday Times described the Two Bridges Hotel, and if you’re looking for a truly special place to escape the everyday rat race, you’ve found it!
This famous Dartmoor hotel is a real Devon gem, partly thanks to its stunning location. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful leafy grounds, which run down to the banks of the West Dart river, where clear and tranquil waters flow.
Step inside, and you’ll immediately sense the history and character of the place. Crackling log fires, gleaming antiques, ticking clocks, and a famously warm welcome.
The Two Bridges Hotel is a great place to stop for a bite of lunch, a traditional afternoon tea, or a sumptuous dinner, but you’d be missing out if you didn’t book to stay a night or two. The 32 individually-styled rooms range from classic and cosy country-style rooms, to grand Premier rooms complete with romantic four poster bed (and some with a spa bath – ideal for a reviving soak after a day on the moors).
Whether you’re staying, or just dropping in for something to eat, you’ll be delighted to discover menus where local Dartmoor and Devon ingredients are at the heart of almost every dish. Some of the menu highlights include exceptional beef and pork from Dartmoor farmers, free-range Devon poultry, fabulously fresh fish from Devon’s coasts, and the best seasonal vegetables and fruits from local suppliers. At lunchtimes you can expect hearty country-inn classics at value-for-money prices, including fish and chips, Dartmoor beef and Jail Ale pudding, ploughman’s lunches and daily-changing specials. In the evening, the talents of Executive Chef Mike Palmer and his team truly come to the fore, with a showcase menu of beautifully presented dishes based around the very best local ingredients. The full Dartmoor Breakfast is another highlight, with a country table of breakfast-time treats followed by an excellent choice of hot breakfast dishes cooked to order.
The hotel’s characterful bar is popular with locals as well as hotel guests, in part thanks to the excellent craft ales on offer, brewed at the hotel’s own Dartmoor Brewery just up the road. You’ll also find an excellent wine list, put together by the hotel’s local wine expert, and a tempting selection of local spirits, ciders and organic soft drinks.
The Two Bridges Hotel is surrounded by stunning Dartmoor scenery. The friendly staff are mostly local, and are full of advice and information to help you plan a day out on the moors – whether it be a bracing walk on the open moors, or a leisurely drive around some of Dartmoor’s pretty country lanes and picture-postcard-perfect villages. Be sure to ask the way to Postbridge, where the ancient clapper bridge makes a stunning photo-opportunity. Also make time to visit the nearby award-winning market town of Tavistock, full of heritage sites and independent shops, and home to sister hotel the historic Bedford Hotel in the heart of town (a good place to stop for coffee!).
Perhaps you’re just looking for sheer relaxation for a few days – in which case the Two Bridges Hotel certainly has what you need. But if you fancy a more active break on Dartmoor, the hotel team can help you with activities, days out, and local knowledge (as well as an excellent packed lunch to keep you going!).
With such a romantic location, it’s not surprise that the Two Bridges Hotel is sought-after wedding venue. The stunning Fountain Room suite caters beautifully for every style of wedding, from an intimate country-style affair to a grand celebration. The Riverside Pagoda, overlooking the waters of the West Dart river, is the location for utterly stunning outdoor weddings.
