Accessibility Features on Your Listing

Visit Devon, alongside VisitEngland and Access and Inclusion UK, is working to improve the accessibility information provided to our visitors. Our shared goal is to ensure that tourist destinations, products, and services are accessible to all people—regardless of their physical or intellectual limitations, disabilities, or age.

To achieve this, we need to update the information about what your business offers and explore how best to showcase that information to visitors and customers.

What is Accessibility?

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) is an increasingly important focus for many businesses. Accessibility is about removing barriers to ensure equal, positive experiences for everyone. It represents the actionable aspect of EDI—especially vital for disabled people, but also beneficial for customers and team members of all backgrounds and identities.

  • Equality – Ensuring everyone can access the same opportunities

  • Diversity – Valuing the differences between people and their identities

  • Inclusion – Creating environments where people feel safe, welcome, and supported

To be effective, accessible tourism must deliver products, services, and environments that allow individuals with impairments or access needs to experience travel with independence and dignity.

Updating Your Listing

The deadline to complete your form(s) is Friday 11th July 2025. If you do not submit your form(s) by this date, any current accessibility features will be removed from your listing, and your business will not appear in accessibility-focused searches on the website.

Please note: Only features you select ‘yes’ for will be shown. For example, if you do not indicate that you accommodate assistance dogs, this will not appear on your listing.

The following are not included in the questionnaire because they are legal requirements and should already be provided:

  • Acceptance of assistance dogs

  • Display of allergen information and proper food labelling

Top 5 Tips for Completing the Questionnaire

  1. Be honest – If you’re unsure about a feature, don’t tick the box

  2. Read the guidance – Follow instructions for each specific question

  3. Review regularly – Keep your information up to date; review at least once a year

  4. Use the correct URL – Link to your listing on Visit Devon, not your own website (e.g., https://www.visitdevon.co.uk/your-listing-page)

  5. One form per listing – If you have multiple listings, complete a separate form for each. If unsure, contact us at zoe@visitdevon.co.uk

These accessibility facilities have been developed in collaboration with VisitEngland and other UK partners using research that identifies the most important features for accessible travel. They also aim to align with standards used on tourism websites and OTAs like Booking.com and Airbnb.

We kindly ask all member businesses to complete a short, user-friendly questionnaire (approximately 3–5 minutes) to let us know which accessibility features you currently offer.

Why Is It Important to My Business?

There are many reasons why accessibility matters and how it can help grow your customer base:

  1. Enhancing customer service and the overall visitor experience

  2. Meeting the needs of underserved markets, including disabled visitors

  3. Adapting to shifting demographics, such as an ageing population

  4. Preventing the loss of group bookings due to a lack of accessible options

  5. Supporting responsible and sustainable tourism development

  6. Improving your business image and reputation

  7. Encouraging repeat visits and turning customers into advocates

What Else Can You Do?

We're always on the lookout for inclusive images featuring visitors enjoying your attraction, accommodation, restaurant, shop, or experience. These may be shared across our website, social media, press, visitor guides, and more. Please reach out if you’d like to contribute.

Now is also a great time to ensure your business page on the Visit Devon website contains accurate and up-to-date information. Not only does this help visitors access your services, but it also improves your search engine visibility and helps our team promote you more effectively via blogs, newsletters, and social media.
