With the beach being voted one of the UK’s best beaches, you’d expect to see plenty to shout about in Woolacombe and you’d be right. Aside from the beautiful award winning coastal areas and the abundance of great places to stay, there are plenty of things to see and do when in Woolacombe and the surrounding areas.

This part of North Devon is hugely popular among families, and as such, there are plenty of events taking place throughout the year to keep you entertained during your travels.

National Trust and more

The Heddon Valley is managed by the National Trust and can be easily accessed from Woolacombe. Being a National Trust property, you’ll find regular events taking place all year around with everything from history trails, talks and wildlife themed events. At Easter and Christmas, the National Trust’s UK wide initiatives also take place in Woolacombe, so if you’re visiting during the Easter holidays, make sure to take part in the annual Cadbury Easter trail or if you’re here at Christmas, join in with the arts and crafts activities that the Trust host.


The residents of Woolacombe are a friendly bunch and they are more than happy for holiday makers and visitors to come along to the community events that they host. You’ll find everything from music performances, cinema screenings and talks about the region’s history among other things. During the school holidays, the number of and frequency of events grows dramatically, so make sure to plan ahead so you can fit everything in. There are a number of local venues that promote live, local music and other performers, so don’t miss out, you never know, you might be witnessing the next Paul McCartney!

For those of you that like to keep active, there are a number of regular events that take place in and around Woolacombe for you to sink your teeth into. A regular park run is held every week and there are a number of beach themed events that give you a chance to enjoy the beautiful view while also keeping your mind and body active. One such event is the Woolacombe Beach Clean which takes place at regular intervals throughout the year and gives you the chance to help keep the beach looking as good as can be. The beach cleans are an important way to help maintain the beauty of the region, but also helps people to understand the need to recycle and get rid of litter appropriately.

Seasonal events

Like with the National Trust at school holidays, there are a number of seasonal events that take place in Woolacombe every year. If you are visiting during the winter months, make sure to go to the Bonfire Night and Fireworks display, where we join together to remember Guy Fawkes while also helping to raise money for local charities.
