In Dartmouth there are plenty of great events every month of the year, so no matter what time you visit there will always be something to occupy you. Maritime connections

Dartmouth has a long tradition of sailing and with its association with the Royal Navy, there are plenty of boating events taking place all year around. The town is still home to the Britannia Royal Naval College and its roots are firmly based in the medieval times, something that is boasted with the many buildings that retain their original features. These historic buildings, including Dartmouth Castle and Bayards Cove Fort often highlight their rich history with events and activities aimed at the whole family. One of the town’s biggest claims to fame is that it played a role in the sailing of the Mayflower to America. This is celebrated with an array of Mayflower events and with 2020 being the 400th anniversary of the voyage, you can expect to see lots more taking place throughout the year.

Annual celebrations

Annually, there are several events for you to look forward to in Dartmouth, including the Dart Music Festival which is held every spring and Dartmouth Food Festival in the Autumn. Aside from these big events which bring thousands to the town every year, there are also annual celebrations for Dartmouth Shakespeare Week and of course Dartmouth’s Royal Regatta as well as Candlelit Dartmouth which is celebrated in the winter months. Many of the town’s celebrations take place over several days giving you plenty of chance to get involved.

The annual Music Festival is a huge draw for crowds and being in May, is often held in stunning weather. The Dartmouth Royal Regatta is another long event taking place all week and is often attended by the entire town as well as visitors because of the amount of family friendly activities that are held while the sailors do their thing on the water. Naturally, Shakespeare Week is a seven day extravaganza focusing on live performances around Dartmouth Castle and Dartmouth Food Festival is a weekend event and being one of the UK’s top food festivals, is often attended by a whole host of well-known chefs showcasing wonderful local produce.

Aside from the big events you’ll find happening at around the same time every year, the events calendar for Dartmouth is bursting with different activities that take place all year around. There are a number of seasonal events for the school holidays at the local attractions and galleries as well as themed events for holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas and Halloween.
