Print: Cloth of Dreams with Sarah Burns
AboutThis course is all about textile printing using natural dyes, including madder, cutch and iron. If you are passionate about slow, local production that creates beautiful fabric, then this is for you. This approach is kinder to our environment and this course will explore these values.
In the 1920s, Dorothy Elmhirst at Dartington commissioned the two pioneering English textile designers Phyllis Barron and Dorothy Larcher, who collaborated with the likes of Coco Chanel and ran their own very successful block printing workshop.
Sarah became fascinated by the lives and work of Phyllis and Dorothy when she was involved in a project to bring their beautiful block-print designs back into production, and has written a beautiful book about the innovative partnership, and the work they produced. Innovative textile techniques, natural dyes and hand-cut blocks – which are beautiful and slow.
