Course: Contemporary Country Chair with Peter Lanyon
AboutPeter Lanyon is an award-winning furniture maker renowned for combining coppiced, unseasoned wood with other materials. On this fabulous 7 day course he will teach participants how to create a personalised, light and practical piece of furniture in this new seven-day course. The course covers everything from learning how to accurately split wood with a froe, and shaping it using a draw knife and spoke shaves, to using unique qualities of unseasoned wood, following a drying schedule and assembly. The course will also allow to take away complete plans to make more chairs at home, leaving plenty of scope for individual design and personalisation.
Peter champions the use of sustainable, home-grown British hardwoods, making contemporary furniture with a natural aesthetic. He runs courses from his tranquil workshop in South Devon, and internationally, and exhibits at the best craft fairs in the country. Peter Lanyon heads up a small team of highly skilled and experienced green wood furniture makers. From his south Devon base, he hand-crafts stunning lamps, tables, chairs and desks using a 'slow' and sustainable methodology that relies on low energy and simple technology – a refreshing change to otherwise fast-paced, mass-produced furniture. He regularly exhibits work in London and across the UK. Peter is also an award-winning member of the Devon Guild, an organisation that supports contemporary crafts.
