After consecutively winning Dog Friendly Business Awards over the last few years, there are few people more qualified to give advice on creating the very best dog friendly holiday than the team at Bolberry Farm Cottages.

Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in South Devon, just moments from the stunning South West Coast Path, there are countless countryside and coastal walks to choose from with your furry friends. Not only that, but the cottages are situated within one of the most dog friendly parts of the county, with dogs welcomed into most hospitality venues and on most beaches in the area.

Speaking about the cottages, Hazel, the owner, said: “We pride ourselves on being truly dog friendly. We recognise that dogs are important members of the family and we welcome all dogs without charge. Guests who have a large dog family shouldn’t have to decide which dogs to take with them and which to leave behind and for the cost of their holiday to increase because they are dog owners.”

Just a quick glance at Bolberry Farm’s booking site will tell you everything you need to know for a dog friendly break. As well as details about the cottages themselves, the website also gives you the chance to plan your days out with a local beach guide highlighting the areas that dogs are welcome, as well as a page of local dog friendly eating establishments. On booking, guests will also receive an email with further advice for a pet friendly holiday in this area of South Devon.

“On arrival,” Hazel continues, “dogs receive their own welcome pack complete with bowls, water, treats, poo bags, extendable leads, torches and colour tags. The tags are a safety feature should dogs become lost during their stay and have ‘On Holiday at Bolberry Farm Cottages TQ7 3DZ’ engraved on one side with contact numbers on the reverse.

“Our cottages have hard floors for easy cleaning and stairgates. Each one has their own enclosed area within an enclosed garden for late night toileting and watering cans are provided for anyone who knows their dog will turn the grass yellow!”

If that wasn’t enough to make your dogs at home during your stay, pooches will also have use of an enclosed dog wash area on a hard standing service for a spot of pampering after trips to the beach or the wider area. It is perfect for cleaning off those paws and there are a variety of shampoos and conditions as well as towels for those dogs that need a little extra pampering before heading in for the night. For the adventurous among you, there are even complimentary dog life jackets in various sizes available for boat trips, so your dog can truly join in on all your holiday activities.

Of course finding somewhere that will make your dog as at home as you, doesn’t mean you should sacrifice comfort, luxury and stunning surroundings. Bolberry Farm Cottages are located in the quiet hamlet of Bolberry between the villages of Hope Cove and Malborough. The picturesque thatched village of Hope Cove has two beaches, a shop, tea rooms and a pub, while Malborough benefits from two pubs, a post office and a well-stocked mini market. A short drive away is the market town of Kingsbridge and the popular Salcombe, both loved for their watersports, shops and eateries. A little further on is Totnes and Dartmouth where you can catch a boat trip or go on to Ivybridge where you can easily access the Dartmoor National Park.

Many of the places to visit in this area are dog friendly and Hazel and the team are happy to recommend their favourite places to visit with your dogs in tow.

Bolberry Farm Cottages are half a mile down a lane from Bolberry Down which is set amidst acres of National Trust coastal countryside. From here you could walk along the South West Coast Path wither west to Bolt Tail and down to Hope Cove or east to the secluded beach of Soar Mill Cove and onwards to Salcombe – a path that has been voted as one of the top ten walks in the world. Along the coast from Hope Cove’s two beaches are South Milton Sands and Thurlestone Beach where you can hire windsurfs and kayaks and make use of the doggy life jackets on offer.
