Devon is truly an adventurer’s paradise. From the wilds of the two National Parks to the perfect conditions for watersports, Devon is the ultimate staycation location for anyone who loves a bit of thrill seeking while they’re on holiday. Whether you’re into long rambles across open moorland, climbing or something a bit off the beaten track, take a look at these adrenaline pumping activities just waiting for you in Devon this autumn.
If you are into your watersports but you’re a bit concerned about getting in the sea in the autumn months, you don’t have to miss out. In Bideford, you’ll find the North Devon Wake Park. Just 10 minutes from the coast, this is a great location for those that aren’t so confident about getting out on a wakeboard or paddleboard and those that are seasoned pros. The onsite instructors are on hand to create incredible adventures for everyone, no matter their age or ability. The aquapark is an outdoor waterbased activity centre on the lake, which is also where the paddleboarding activities take place. For those that want to try your hand at wakeboarding, this is the place to give it a try! Once you’ve tried yourselves out, you can even refresh at their onsite café!

Also in North Devon is Skern Lodge, where you can find a whole host of activities no matter what the season. Skern Lodge offers everything from water activities like paddleboarding and canoeing to climbing, abseiling, zip wires and archery – so no matter what you’re into, you can be sure of an adventure or two here. In fact, the adventure doesn’t even need to end, you can book short breaks through them with your accommodation and full board plus the chance to join in their adventure club or activity days!
For those of you who want to create your own adventure, take a look at the activities on offer at Roadford Lake. Situated in the beautiful Wolf Valley, this is a must for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in outdoor activities. The lake is the largest inland water in the south west and with den building, kayaking and a host of walking and cycling trails, you can spend as much or as little time as you like on your adventure!
One of the most popular water activities in Devon is canoeing – there really is no other way to explore the region’s waterways. Canoe Tamar is a great way to enjoy the scenery and wildlife with their Canoe Safaris and with instructors on hand, you’ll be the captain of your own canoe in no time! The canoe activities are suitable for all ages and abilities, all you need to do is manage a paddle – you don’t even need to be a particularly good swimmer!
If you’re travelling with children, make sure to book a session at the Bear Trail. Perfect for all ages from toddlers upwards, the Bear Trail is full of assault courses, zip wires and more! Plus, by visiting in the autumn, you’re more likely to encounter the mud and nothing says a fun day out at the Bear Trail than getting covered in mud while taking on the obstacle course!
Another great family friendly option is Tree Surfers. Located on the Devon/Cornwall border, Tree Surfers gives you the chance to cross rope bridges like Indiana Jones, swing from trees like Tarzan and brave the ziplines and walkways high up in the tops of the trees to your heart’s content. There are four specially designed high ropes courses catering for a variety of ages and with a huge space to explore, this is a great place to spend the whole day.
