Simpson Valley Fishery

This series of lakes in North Devon are well known for their trout stock and are a great choice during the winter months. Not only that, but it offers great value for money, so it’s an ideal spot for someone who is just getting into the sport or wants to try it out. There’s also some lovely picnic spots around the lakes, making it a good family destination.

Bratton Water Fishery
Loxhore, Barnstaple, EX31 4ST
If you’re looking for a picturesque spot for fly fishing, give this place a go. There are several fish species to be found here, with brown trout being the most dominant.

Angler’s Paradise
Beaworthy, EX21 5XT
This mature site is stocked with some unusual species including blue, gold and tiger trout as well as a few rainbows depending on the season.

Tavistock Trout Fishery
Tavistock, PL19 9JW

Blakewell Fishery

This lake is fed by a natural spring ensuring incredibly clear water that rarely freezes over, so if you’re planning a winter break, this might be a good place to spend a few hours casting your lines.

Bellbrook Valley
Tiverton, EX16 9EX
This is more of a secluded spot that features smaller lakes, making it great for beginners or those who are feeling a little rusty. There are regular competitions taking place here, so check their calendars before booking a space.

Hatchlands Trout Farm
South Brent, TQ10 9LN
Full of rainbow trout, this site located within the South Hams part of Devon right on the edge of Dartmoor is a lovely, picturesque place which offers instruction as well as somewhere that well versed anglers can enjoy themselves.

Upper Yealm Fishery
Plymouth, PL7 5JY
Ideal for brown trout, sea trout and salmon in a peaceful location. There are around 1KM of double bank fly fishing here with brown trout in the winter and sea trout in the summer months.

The River Dart
Whether you are on the east or west Dart there are some 26 miles of fishing available with brown trout, sea trout and salmon. Season tickets are available from a range of outlets across Dartmoor.
