Next up in our camping series, we’re looking at campsites in the Mid Devon area. These sites are a great choice for anyone who wants to get out and explore as being in Mid Devon, you’re equidistance from just about everywhere! With two national parks, a host of countryside and plenty of coast for adventures, you can really have the best of both worlds by staying in this region.
Many of the campsites in Mid-Devon are located in the heart of the countryside, so you can really immerse yourself in nature.
One campsite that will appeal to families is Crealy Meadows, which is right next door to the award winning theme park. The park is home to over 60 rides and attractions, both indoor and outdoor and suitable for the whole family. The campsite has a wide choice of accommodation options to suit all budgets, including a camping and touring pitch, so you can bring your own accommodation with you.
If that didn’t sound good enough, staying at Crealy Meadows will give you discounted entry to the theme park for the whole of your stay as well as access to the resort facilities!
Crealy is just a stone’s throw, not only from the motorway, making it easily accessible from all over the country, but also from Exeter, where there are a host of attractions and activities, from exploring the cathedral to visiting the quay where there are eateries and live entertainment venues galore!

If you like the idea of being close to Exeter so you can experience a city break without having to stay in the city, another option is booking a stay at Castle Brake Holiday Park. The site is just a short break from Exeter city centre and is also close to the towns and villages of the Jurassic Coast. With both static accommodation and pitches for caravans, tents and motor homes, you can choose whatever best suits you.
Castle Brake isn’t a large, sprawling site where you can easily get lost, but it does have superb facilities, including a bar and restaurant where you can sample some amazing local food and drink. The amenity block has under floor heating and family bathrooms, which are equipped with facilities for those with additional needs. Guests are also welcome to use the facilities at Castle Brake’s sister site at Ladram Bay, including their swimming pool, live entertainment and private beach!
There are a whole host of fascinating attractions in the vicinity, including Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, where you’ll find over 60 acres of beautiful gardens a countryside museum, garden centre, restaurant and more! Kids will also love days out at the World of Country Life which is less than 5 miles away. At World of Country Life, you can get up close and personal with a variety of cute animals, including deer, llamas and pygmy goats!

For those of you who want to be somewhere truly rural, take a look at Langstone Manor Park in Tavistock. This award winning park is set among mature grounds in a sheltered valley on the southern edge of the Dartmoor National Park, making it easy to have adventures, gentle walks and a day out looking for the iconic ponies.
Langstone Manor Park has level, well drained pitches for tents and touring caravans, or take your pick from their own static accommodation, including camping and glamping pods – which are a good compromise for those of you who love the idea of camping but don’t want to give up your home comforts. This is a great site for anyone who wants to relax, the lack of pollution and traffic mean the night skies are stunning and there is peace and quiet all hours of the day. Dogs are welcome onsite and with their commitment to being environmentally friendly, you can have a guilt free holiday!
If you want to get out and truly enjoy the beauty of the natural area, there are several organisations close to Langstone Manor Park offering you the chance to do just that. Crag 2 Mountain are a family run adventure activity company operating on Dartmoor and offering everything from caving, pot holing, navigation, climbing and abseiling and more! Everything is created so that whatever your age or ability, you can join in and have fun. Alternatively, there is Tree Surfers where there are tree top activities suitable for all ages and located in the stunning Tamar Valley. The tree tops feature zip lines, walkways, swings and rope bridges – everything you need for an adventure!
Also in the Tavistock area is Devon Yurt – one of the region’s popular glamping site. Glamping is the answer if you need to compromise on camping and home comforts, with these accommodation providers, you have all the charm of camping with the added luxury of actual beds, running water and even heating! All while staying in a tent! If that is something that appeals to you, Devon Yurt is located within 18 acres of private grassland on the edge of Dartmoor and each yurt has full sized beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, carpets and log burners. Plus, all cooking and dining equipment is provided!
Each Yurt has their own toilet as well as the use of the shower barn and the bath tent. The shower barn even has unrivalled views of the moors thanks to their full length glass walls. While you’re staying, why not spend a few hours relaxing by learning how to fly fish? The Arundell Fly Fishing days cater for beginners through to expert fishers and has 22 miles of private fishing – perfect for learning something new or enjoying an old hobby!

For those of you who liked the sound of glamping, there are other options for you in the mid Devon region including the Orchard Retreat. Their Yurts sleep up to four guests and are nestled in an apple orchard, all within a short stroll of their own private bathroom and kitchen facilities. Guests are free to explore the site’s 15 acres of meadows and woodlands and are dog and family friendly. The site also features a badminton court, outdoor table tennis and other outdoor games, as well as a picnic spot so you can enjoy the good weather! By staying here, you’re close to Fursdon Gardens and tea rooms. Fursdon is one of Devon’s oldest family homes and makes for a wonderful day out – at less than 3 miles from Orchard Retreat, it’s a good place to stop for a cream tea or two!
