Since his first visit to Dartmoor over 30 years’ ago, Bristol born David Phillips, now based in Devon, has been enchanted by everything that the iconic landscape has to offer.
David explains: “When I first visited Dartmoor, I felt an instant connection with the unique landscape and the folklore surrounding it.
“Whilst furloughed from my day job, I decided it was time to bring to life my dream of doing something that was a fusion of my love for Dartmoor and my enjoyment of storytelling, myths, legends and the paranormal.”
He added “After conversations with my friend Paul, an experienced driver we came up with the idea of bespoke, intimate tours across Dartmoor, where he would do the driving and I would be the tour guide, telling some of the fascinating stories of the people and places we visited along the way.”
With the lifting of lockdown, Moors & Moor Tours are now able to offer their services to residents and holidaymakers alike. Learn about Jan Reynolds and his exploits in and around Widecombe during the Devil’s Quest tour or travel across the whole of the Moor, from Buckfastleigh to Lydford on the Dartmoor Quest. These are just two examples of the tours available, and David will discuss with you any locations you would like to add on, or you can work with him to create your own bespoke journey. There will of course be stops along the way, including places where you can grab lunch or a traditional Devon Cream Tea (but only if you put the cream on first!).
The standard package tours for the Devil’s Quest start at £300 with the Dartmoor Quest at £330. This cost is for a group of up to 5 people, which includes the cost of the car, Paul your driver and David your storyteller guide, both of whom will be dressed in steampunk attire to give your tour even more atmosphere. The steampunk inspired clothing was developed from ye olden days when the jesters and storytellers would dress up to draw a crowd.
