If when you think of Devon, you think of thatched roofs and horse drawn carriages, then you’re thinking of Cockington, one of the region’s chocolate box villages. We’re in lockdown at the moment, so you can’t go there, but we thought we’d bring you some of our favourite photos from the village and maybe you can add it to your holiday wish lists for later in the year!
Cockington is located in the English Riviera on the outskirts of Torquay and is closed off to traffic at certain points. The village has a country estate and a very cute tea room and is visited by Father Christmas every year, he lets the reindeer take a break while there and the horses take over the pulling of his carriage. Our very own roving reporter, Dilys, went and met him, back when such things were allowed!

Whatever time of year you visit, the main attractions have to be the beautiful cottages with their thatched rooves and pretty colours.

There are other landmarks to look out for too, like this one:

As well as the picturesque cottages in the village, Cockington is home to a sprawling country estate, which is complete with a manor (Cockington Court) and miles of parkland (Cockington Country Park) to enjoy.

Cockington is also famous for its cream tea and home made ice cream, so once restrictions are lifted, be sure to stop by the village’s tea shop for some refreshments!

Will you be adding Cockington to your itineraries once restrictions are lifted?
