As lockdown continues, we thought we would bring a little Devon to you by telling you our top five things about the county! Did we list your favourite things about Devon? Let us know!
Devon has two coastlines and they are both beautiful in different ways. The coastline in North Devon is part of the region’s AONB, while the south coast features the English Riviera and a number of Blue Flag beaches. Let’s not forget that part of the Jurassic Coast runs through Devon too!
These areas can be explored using the South West Coast Path, the UK’s longest national trail – it’s dog friendly and with the number of walks it offers, is suitable for all ages and abilities!
Devon is well known for the quality of its food. Firstly, there is the incomparable Devon Cream Tea with homemade jam, freshly baked scones and of course, that creamy delicious local cream. Custard is also a big thing here as is cider and, as you would expect, sea food. Brixham has some of the best seafood in the country and places like Clovelly and Ilfracombe are the place to be for crab, lobster and other shellfish.
Devon is home to some of the prettiest towns and villages in the UK. From the Bohemian town of Totnes to the chocolate box village of Cockington and the historical village of Clovelly, there are plenty of beautiful places to explore and call home during your trip.
Not content with having two National Parks, but Devon also has two sets of wild ponies! You can find them on Dartmoor towards the middle and south of Devon and Exmoor in the north. You’ll also be able to find the south west’s biggest puffin colony on Lundy Island and herds of wild mountain goats in the Valley of the Rocks! That’s not even counting the seals and dolphins that call the waters home or the many species of birds and butterflies that can be seen in the more rural areas or even the otters and beavers that live in the region’s rivers.
Simply put, Devon is a beautiful place, don’t believe us? Well, head to our Instagram and we’ll soon convert you!
