23rd July 2020
Categories: Visitor News
This weekend on Saturday 25 July, Mayflower 400 is releasing the next film in the My Mayflower digital series, which features a project called Mayflower Reflections, a virtual reality experience that immerses audiences and explores the story of the momentous journey and the contemporary parallels with those early voyagers.
The film talks to Paul Long, creative director of Leicester-based arts organisation MBD, who have created a new VR experience which allows audiences to find themselves transported back to the 17th century via their virtual Reality Headset from the comfort of their own home. A sneak peek of what to expect can be watched here.
As audiences hear of the story of these early settlers, viewers learn how much has changed since the voyagers first settled on the land and the similarities between their journey and the journey of millions of asylum seekers today.
The My Mayflower short film explores the themes of the project, including how persecution still effects a great many people today and the similar journeys people are still taking - as well as the impact those voyages had on others.
This short film will play on the Mayflower 400 UK website andFacebook page at 5pm UK time and midday EST on Saturday 25 July 2020.
