South Devon Railway’s SOS emergency funding appeal, which was launched to help the attraction survive after the lockdown saw them close for the busiest visitor season. The railway, like many attractions in Devon, rely heavily on visitor attendance and events to help them run.
The latest update from the fund shows that it now totals £179,186.73 with the team hoping that they can now hit a milestone of £200,000 by the end of this month. They are aiming to reach £500,000 in total, as this is the amount that is needed to combat the loss of income.
While they haven’t been able to open to the public, SDR have still been communicating with their visitors, with Facebook live broadcasts and videos featuring the trains that would have been at their various events throughout the Easter and Summer seasons. Over the next week, more online content is expected, with short video clips from the 50th anniversary DVD which was produced last year, being released on the internet for train fans to enjoy.
