Want something romantic to do with your loved one this Valentine’s Day but also on a budget? We feel ya. This can be an expensive time of year, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a lovely romantic day, particularly if you’re somewhere as picturesque as Devon with its romantic rolling hills and calming beaches. We’ve put together a few ideas for a romantic date in Devon that won’t break the bank.

Go for a picnic in one of the National Parks

Dartmoor is one of the most romantic spots in Devon, its landscape screams of the classics like Pride and Prejudice and has inspired many poets and writers over the years. Similarly, Exmoor is the setting for Lorna Doone, one of the great romantic epics. So why not pull together a picnic, go for a walk and settle yourself somewhere secluded where you can enjoy each other’s company and the incredible views at the same time? Both National Parks have several spots that are perfect for picnics, amazingly picturesque sights and a general air of mysticism which really adds to the romantic atmosphere.

Relax on the beach

One of the many great things about Devon is that it has an abundance of beaches, many of which are Blue Flag beaches and others that fall within Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. While February isn’t the warmest of months, you will catch a few sunny days which make it perfect for visiting the sea front, listening to the waves crashing against the sand and relaxing.

Grab some fish and chips

Speaking of visiting the beach, why not grab some fish and chips either from a pop up or a take away and sit on the seafront to eat. With all the fresh, local produce available in Devon, you’ll find some of the best fish and chips in the country. Plus, you can’t visit the seaside and not treat yourself to fish and chips!

Lose yourself in the wilderness

Devon has a huge amount of walking trails and organisations using the natural landscape to their advantage. Book onto a guided tour or head out yourself and explore Devon on your own romantic adventure.

Visit a chocolate box village

If you want to experience somewhere with a romantic atmosphere, head to one of Devon’s chocolate box villages. These villages feel like stepping into a time loop with their cobbled streets and thatched rooves. Cockington near Torquay is one such village while Clovelly in North Devon is another.
