The beautiful community based Rotherfold Artisan Market has been running in Totnes since 2018, created by Sima Cutting, who runs a small outside catering business based in Totnes and Chloe O’Brien, the owner of a lovely independent shop on Leechwell Street, in the town which sells crafts made by local artisans.
Sima and Chloe started RAM because they wanted to bring artisanal handmade gifts, home wares, food and drink and music to an under-used but lovely square called The Rotherfold at the top of Totnes town centre. The crafts and other items for sale are always supplied by hand-picked local makers and small businesses to fit in with the overall ethos and values of the event.
Sima said: “Chloe and I really love this event – it is close to our hearts. We feel strongly that shopping local is important for a strong local economy, we form bonds with other small businesses and our customers and love to showcase the wealth of talent and creativity in our community.
“This event has grown from strength to strength with more and more fantastic makers bringing their gorgeous handmade wares to our lovely little market!”
The next RAM will take place on the Saturday of the Easter weekend from 10am on 11th April and is the fourth event since 2018. It will feature a fantastic line up with some wonderful makers selling textiles, jewellery, ceramics, illustrations and prints, beeswax food wraps, kids apparel and locally grown flowers. Chloe’s shop will also have a stall showcasing some of their in-house makers & crafters.
The event is always very family friendly and this spring will feature several Devon based craft companies, some of which will be running some interesting kids craft activities, plus there will be a cheerful vibe with live music from a vibrant and eclectic mix of local musicians on the buskers stage.
If you’re feeling hungry there will be plenty of food and drink available from even more local suppliers including vegan, gluten free, vegetarian and meat burgers, savoury and sweet snacks and cakes and locally brewed beer, from a brewery in Dartington which is 100% community-owned.
The next RAM is planned for 26th September. Visit these lovely events, buy a gift, something for the home, a self-care treat for you or a loved one, delicious food and drink and have a fun time while supporting local, independent traders from in and around Totnes. https://www.facebook.com/rotherfoldartisanmarket/
