Thanks to lockdowns both regional and national, your team is likely feeling a bit disjointed having spent so much time away from each other and the work place. In 2021, as restrictions start to lift and the world starts to seem a bit more normal, rebuild your team’s work relationship by booking a team building activity in Devon.
With two National Parks, two coastlines and an abundance of activities and attractions, Devon is the perfect place for a team building session.
If your team need to lose their inhibitions, why not book a session at The Bear Trail? This family friendly assault course is good for people of all ages and abilities, it features over 30 obstacles and unlimited mud, making it ideal for getting the team to unwind together. The site offers dedicated corporate events and with its ample onsite parking, the team can easily make their way there.
The Bear Trail can be found in Cullompton, which isn’t far from Tiverton or Exeter, so you can also make use of public transport, the road network and the many hotels and conference centres in the area during your trip.
In Tavistock, you’ll find Tree Surfers, another activity based attraction perfect whatever your age and ability. Just make sure that none of the team are scared of heights before setting them loose on the zip wire!

If you like the sound of getting your team involved in some physical activities, Skern Lodge in Appledore is another great option. You’ll find a range of activities taking place throughout the year and they even have WiFi throughout the site, so you can have fun while also keeping the business ticking over back home.
Similarly, Roadford Lake near Lifton is an adventurers paradise. Situated in the beautiful Wolf Valley (Where they also make some incredible gin – just saying) your team can take part in a variety of activities at the lake or the surrounding countryside.
Another way to get the team working together and building relationships is to get them out on the water. Luckily, there are a host of organisations offering water based activities all across Devon, especially on the coast where you can find companies offering tuition and group sessions with equipment hire, so you can all grab a surf board, paddle board or kayak and head out onto the waves. While North Devon is the surfing capital of the UK, there are plenty of opportunities to get on a board or jump on a jet sky just about anywhere. Torbay has several organisations making use of the beautiful coastline there and you’ll find plenty in East Devon too along the Jurassic Coast. You can find out more about water sports in Devon here.

If after everything in 2020, you think the team need to be eased in gently, take a look at the sessions offered by Canoe Tamar. Not only is this a relaxing way to enjoy the stunning scenery along the Tamar Valley, but your group will have to work together to get themselves around as part of the Canoe Tamar Safari. Though, don’t worry, they don’t need to be too energetic, as the tide does most of the work! These are also suitable for all ages and abilities and you are accompanied by an instructor to keep everyone safe.
Another option in the north of the county is a trip to the North Devon Wake Park. Located just ten minutes from the coast, this site offers the best of both worlds, a huge lake where you can take on a whole host of water challenges without having to worry about big waves or the tide – ideal for the less confident members of your team. With everything from paddle boarding, wake boarding, Ringo rides and obstacle courses at the Aqua Park, there is something for everyone here. Plus, the Wake Park has implemented a number of Covid safety measures, so everyone can enjoy themselves without having to worry.
Image: Crag 2 Mountain
Not sure about water but still up for a challenge? In that case, book a session with Crag 2 Mountain and the team will be climbing to new heights in no time! With sessions taking place on Dartmoor, Crag 2 Mountain provide coaching and guiding in climbing, mountaineering, navigation skills and caving, giving you plenty of scope for testing the team’s relationships and helping to grow their confidence. All the activities offered by Crag 2 Mountain can be tailored to your needs, so you can make sure that every employee can take part – no matter what you have in mind.
If you’re feeling like they need to take a moment to relax and regroup after what has been a truly stressful year, another option is to book a few spa sessions, which is something else that can easily be done in Devon. The county has a whole host of spas and hotels offering spa treatments, giving you somewhere to stay, somewhere to host any meetings and of course, somewhere to recharge. You can find a host of Devon spa hotels and leisure activities here.
Still looking for inspiration? You can find more activities across Devon here and if you still need convincing that Devon is a great place to bring the team, you can see more on our team building page here. The county is a great choice for conferences and meetings too, especially with the huge array of conference spaces and hotels offering management of the whole event. You can find out more here.
