5th December 2020
Categories: Visitor News
Retail in Devon reopened on 2nd December which doesn’t leave you much time to grab your remaining gifts – if you’re still on the hunt for the perfect present, check out what’s on offer from Devon’s shops before it’s too late!
Devon is in Tier 2, which means that retail can operate as normal, but we want to make sure that everyone stays safe, so please do follow the systems that individual shops have put into place, wear a face covering and make sure to wash your hands. If you are shopping in groups, make sure that these do not exceed six and that you are all members of the same support bubble or household group.
When it comes to high streets, Devon has plenty to choose from, so wherever you are, you’ll find a perfect mix of brands, both designer and affordable as well as independent retailers where you can get unique gifts for your loved ones. Drake Circus in Plymouth, Green Lanes in Barnstaple and the shopping streets of Exeter are all great places to start. Exeter and Plymouth both have department stores and if you’re in North Devon, the Atlantic Village provides an excellent range.

If you want designer goods at affordable prices, head to Affinity Devon in Bideford . Full of shops and eateries, Affinity offers everything you need for a full day our hitting the shops and exercising your credit card, what’s more, the outlet village is open every day except Christmas Day and there is free parking!
As you might expect, there are several Covid safety measures in place throughout the outlet, with individual stores operating their own guidelines and enhanced cleaning regimes, one way systems and hand sanitising stations located throughout which visitors are encouraged to use.

If you want to pick up some glassware as a Christmas gift, Dartington Crystal is just five miles from Affinity and is the UK’s only remaining glass factory. Open to the public, visitors to Dartington Crystal can see the iconic glass being made and take part in the self guided factory tour where you can see every stage of the process before popping into the shop. The shop features the largest selection of crystal and glass in the UK as well as unbeatable bargains on all Dartington products.
While you’re in North Devon, why not stop by Quince Honey Farm for some gift packs of locally produced honey? Not only do they have gift sets full of sweet treats, but you can also pick up candles, skincare and more all made using beeswax from the farm.
For those of you who are interested in giving the gift of Devon this Christmas, you could always get in touch with the Salcombe Distilling Co and pick up some amazing hand crafted gin. All the gins are distilled and crafted in Salcombe, including the award winning Start Point – one of their most popular varieties, perfect with a dash of tonic water or lemonade as an alternative to wine with your Christmas dinner! Another option is getting a bottle or two from Plymouth Gin. The distillery in Plymouth is England’s oldest working distillery and has been making gin to the same recipe since 1793, so it’s the place for classic gin flavours!
It isn’t just Devon gin on offer either, you can find Devon produced wine, spirits and of course cider as well as vineyards, orchards and distillers across the region offering tours of the grounds and the chance to see how your favourite drinks are made. Why not grab a voucher and give your loved one an experience as a gift this year?
Experiences make a great Christmas gift and what could be better than giving the gift of a day out in Devon? Crealy Theme Park and Resort are just one of the theme parks in the county offering gift vouchers, so you can visit the park whenever you like! There’s something for everyone at the park, with over 60 indoor and outdoor attractions and an action packed calendar of events throughout the year.
