This one is probably best going to at night as it is part of the Dark Sky Reserve. You’ll find this along the Exmoor Coast and can access it via the South West Coast Path. It really is one of the most incredible sights in this part of Devon and is home to a number of wild goats that you might be able to capture if you’re quick on the camera shutter.
The whole bay that looks out onto the ocean in Plymouth is a hugely important area in Devon’s maritime history. Not only has it been the launching place of many a ship over the years but it also has a fascinating ecology. Head to Fort Bovisand or Mount Batten to see the Sound in all its glory.
Though you might not think it, this is the highest cliff top promenade in the whole of England. Located just outside Torquay you’ll easily find access to the cliff tops in Babbacombe. On a clear day, you can even see all the way over to Dorset so if you’re into your photography, make sure to have a choice of lenses available. For another chance to see the view, take a trip on the cliff railway.
Perhaps one of the most ecologically significant places in the region, Lundy Island is easily accessed by ferry from the North Devon mainland. The island has no cars, no electricity and plenty of rarely seen wildlife including puffins, seals and more.
There is something quite dramatic and exciting about castle ruins and Berry Pomeroy Castle is one of the most picturesque sites. Surrounded by woodland and with lots of ruins to explore, this is a beautiful place to visit and offers some incredible views.
Head to the beach in Sidmouth to access Connaught Gardens where you’ll find Jacob’s Ladder. From the top of the stairs you can see the red cliffs in all their glory as well as the view out to sea.
Found in the heart of Devon this beautiful nature reserve has so many things to see and do as well as the wonderful scenery. Take a trip along the canal on a horse drawn barge or explore the canal’s bank on foot for some wonderful sights.
