Any mention of Devon will likely bring to mind beautiful beaches, cream teas and more, so why not make a point of visiting the county this year? There are so many amazing events taking place to commemorate big events like the Mayflower 400 plus all the usual delights – here are just five reasons why we think you should come to Devon in 2020.
Whatever time of year you come to Devon you can be sure of fun things to see and do. There are a host of popular events that take place every year, like Ottery St Mary’s Tar Barrel Rolling in November, the various food and drink festivals and music festivals as well as all the commemorative events for the Mayflower 400 – you’ll never be short of something to do in Devon this year.
It doesn’t matter where you are on Devon’s coast it is all equally as picturesque. With many of the UK’s top attractions making Devon their home it’s no wonder that it is such a popular destination for families and those looking for a spot of adventure. From climbing walls to theme parks, there is something for everyone here in Devon!
It isn’t just the coast that Devon has going for it, the region is served by two National Park and acres of green spaces – it is one of the best places to visit for walkers and cyclists and these are two of the best ways to explore the countryside. Plus, the amount of space makes it perfect for dogs, so don’t leave them at home during your trip to Devon this year.
We can’t mention the coastline without talking about the incredible fresh seafood that you can get in Devon. Head to the places like Brixham in the English Riviera for freshly caught fish, Salcombe for crab and Clovelly for lobster. Not into seafood? That’s fine, make sure to sample the locally produced ciders, gins and wines as well as the locally raised meat. Of course while you’re here you absolutely must have a cream tea, just make sure that you put the jam and cream on the right way.
