Volunteers at South Devon Railway are hosting a Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 27th September at the buffet coach at the railway station in Staverton from 10.30 until 3.30pm.
The event will have a selection of hot and cold drinks plus home-made savouries and cakes, all monies raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Care. Many of the volunteers at South Devon railway are also members of the Staverton Preservation Group and are hoping to raise a tidy sum for this very worthy cause and also help to raise awareness of the work Macmillan does in the community helping people suffering with cancer across the country.
SPG Macmillan Coffee Morning event organiser and Staverton Preservation Group Vice Chairman, Marina Mitchelmore, said: "Several members of the Staverton Preservation Group who all work on the South Devon Railway have had their lives touched by cancer in the past, so it's a disease sadly known to us. We held our first Macmillan coffee morning event last year and raised £700!
"Macmillan Cancer Support has supported some of our members through these difficult times, so once again we felt it would be good to give something back to help others fighting cancer."
Visitors can travel to the event either by SDR steam trains or by car and use the station car park, park in front of the station, or in some of the allocated spaces at Diverde's highways maintenance premises nearby.
The station buffet coach has plenty of seats inside but, in the event the sun does not shine on the righteous for the day, extra covered seating will be provided outside in case the weather turns a tad damp.
Special thanks go to Dean Court Farm Shop & Kitchen, as well as to Dartmoor Lodge, who have both kindly donated prizes for this year's draw to help raise funds for Macmillan.
