Attention bibliophiles, discover an exciting new walking trail uncovering the places and stories of the region’s greatest writers all while taking in the sights and sounds of the beautiful English Riviera.
The free guide was launched at the International Agatha Christie Festival which took place in her native Torquay this week and is available in print from the English Riviera Visitor Information Centre in Torquay or online from here.
The guide will take you on a trail around the region revealing facts about fifteen writers who have been inspired by the English Riviera including classic writers such as Oscar Wilde, Mary Shelly, Charles Kingsley, more contemporary authors like Lesley Pearse and of course, Agatha Christie. Some of the writers featured were sent to the English Riviera on doctor’s orders, others made it their home and some were just passing through, however your favourite story teller ended up there, you’ll find plenty of fascinating facts along the route. The trail will take you to the places in the English Riviera that inspired them, areas they visited and places they lived and takes in streets, beaches and cliff top locations.
The trail can be completed in a day or over several days and by using the guide, you can find the stunning architecture and coastal views that has been inspiring people for over 200 years. The trail even gives you options for public transport as you make your way around the map helping to reduce your carbon footprint.
