Yes, we have reached peak celebration days, Bacon Day is a thing and it is coming soon, so naturally, we thought we’d promote some of the best bacon providers in the county: our B&Bs.
Breakfasts from Devon’s B&Bs is really something special, made from high quality local produce and prepared and served by some of the friendliest people in the accommodation industry, you really can’t go far wrong.
There are lots of perks of staying in a B&B, including having cosy, home from home comforts, onsite guides who can give you invaluable advice on places to go and what to see locally, plus there are often last minute deals, letting you get away for less. And we haven’t even mentioned how great the breakfasts are yet!
Whether you are into your full English or would rather opt for a vegetarian or vegan breakfast, you’ll find the perfect one for you here in Devon, here are a few suggestions of great B&Bs that can be found in the county.
If you want to spend some time in the beautiful north Devon coast, you’re in luck as there are loads of great bed and breakfast options for you.
In Westward Ho!, the Waterfront Inn offer bed and breakfast alongside an award-winning beach.

As well as being the site of a popular restaurant, the Waterfront Inn is dog friendly and the breakfasts are incredible. If you don’t fancy having all your meals there, you’re near to the Pier House, a bistro and bar based right on the sea front. It’s an area that is full of attractions and things to do, so you can work off the big breakfast by taking on a challenge at the North Devon Wake Park, watching sheep race at the Big Sheep or doing some outdoor adventuring at Skern Lodge.
In neighbouring Barnstaple where you’ll find the famous Verity statue and the historic Pannier market is Huxtable Farm. Spend a few night in this beautiful award winning 16th century farm house where you can guarantee the freshness of the hearty home made breakfasts.

If you start to get peckish in the afternoon, the Laura Ashley Tea Rooms at High Bullen offer a huge selection of afternoon teas and snacks and if you want to experience more locally made produce, you can take a trip to Quince Honey Farm, where you can not only find out more about bees, but also buy honey made onsite.
Another North Devon option for you is the Old Bakery in Braunton. This relaxing B&B is a bit different to the more traditional fare, choose from a variety of accommodation options and after breakfast, guests have the option to use the kitchen as a self-catering property. Plus, they cater for everyone, including vegans, vegetarians and those that are gluten free among others.

For a large choice of north Devon based B&Bs, be sure to look at the properties offered by North Devon Farm Holidays who operate all over the region. Whatever kind of B&B accommodation you’re looking for, you’ll find it in their portfolio.
Many of the region’s local produce comes from the agricultural areas in the south of the county. Which is why the B&Bs and of course, their breakfasts are so popular in this part of Devon. There is such a wide range of properties available that having to pick just one is too difficult!
You might associate this area more with seafood than with breakfast items, but you’d be surprised – it should also be famous for the high quality breakfasts!
There are lots of options for you in the more popular resorts such as Torquay, for instance, Grosvenor House can be found just behind Torre Abbey and offers amazing views over the sea and the town, plus if you’re in town for a conference and need somewhere to stay, this is close to the Riviera International Conference Centre. Being so well located also means that guests are in the right place for getting involved in water sports, Jet Set Go are based in Torquay and Sea Kayak Torbay is also nearby, so you have plenty of opportunity to get active and work off that impressive breakfast. For those of you travelling with families you’re also in the right place for a number of the town’s top attractions, like Torquay’s Dinosaur World and Living Coasts Torquay. If you want something a little different, be sure to visit neighbouring Babbacombe, where you’ll find Babbacombe Model Village and Babbacombe Cliff Railway, both are great options for families who want a fun day out.
If you want somewhere quiet and adults only, make sure to take a look at Heathcliff House, also in Torquay. This award-winning B&B cater exclusively for adults and everything on their breakfast menu is not only locally sourced but cooked to order, just the way you like it.

If you want to stay in the English Riviera area, but outside the main resorts, why not take a look at Brixham? This charming harbour town is a haven for anyone who likes seafood and has several great B&Bs for you to choose from.
Beacon House is nestled in the heart of the town and has stunning views over Brixham harbour. The locally sourced breakfast is complimented with some of the famous Brixham fish, so you can be sure of a wide selection of breakfast options. Families staying here will be able to spend time at the popular Splashdown Quaywest, the UK’s largest outdoor waterpark, as well as being close to Paignton Zoo and the historic steam railway at Dartmouth.
Also in the heart of Brixham Harbour is the Driftwood Boutique B&B, which previously featured on Channel 5’s Our Dream Hotel. The site is adult only and offers a boutique bed and breakfast experience, giving you a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Further south in Newton Abbot, Amberley has a different kind of property available for those wanting bed and breakfast accommodation.

This restored, thatched former farm house is comfortable and welcoming and hidden away in a secluded countryside location. The surrounding farmland really makes you appreciate the beautifully fresh breakfasts and inspires adventure, luckily, there are plenty of opportunities to do so in the region. Haldon Forest Park is less than five miles away, as is Canonteign Falls. These outdoor attractions allow you to explore at your own pace as well as take part in a variety of activities including zip wires!
If you want to find out more about the arts, the Devon Guild of Craftsmen is free to enter and has plenty of galleries to keep you entertained and for the adults, Newton Abbot racecourse has lots of events on throughout the year.
For a property with a private pool, look no further than Bulleigh Barton Manor in Newton Abbot. Not only do you get a delicious homemade breakfast, but the owners also pride themselves on their homemade cakes and the cream teas that welcome guests to the house. If the thought of eating cakes and cream teas makes you feel guilty, you can always join a Unique Devon Tour and learn more about the wider area while staying active!

For those of you really looking to relax and get back to nature, the Sharpham Trust offer a number of retreats as well as their bed and breakfast service. Based in Totnes, this mindfulness centre is all about well-being and rest. Don’t worry about it being all work and no play, Dartington Hall has a wide range of attractions and eateries onsite, including events to keep you busy during your stay.
Farm stays are abundant throughout the mid-Devon area where there are lots of countryside retreats and of course, land for raising all those delicious breakfast ingredients. One example is Upton Farm in Cullompton, set on a working organic dairy farm. The breakfast is served in the farm house kitchen where you can see the herd of cows going about their business. See much more of the area by taking a trip with Aerosaurus Balloons you can make the whole experience even more special by booking one of their champagne Hot Air Balloon Flights!
South View Farm B&B cook their locally sourced breakfast on their aga and the eggs are laid onsite by their flock of hens. It’s an ideally located base for anyone wanting to explore the wider Devon area, with Haldon Forest being less than 3 miles away and many of Exeter’s attractions, like Exeter Cathedral. In the Tavistock area is Borough Farm where The Granary B&B are based where you can catch glimpses of the Dartmoor National Park from the bedroom windows.

If you don’t fancy a farm stay, how about a castle? Pentillie Castle has bed and breakfast accommodation and the countryside location is perfect for those that love being outdoors. The active among you will enjoy the nearby Tamar Trails or Tree Surfers where you can challenge yourself to new heights.
Staying somewhere central is good for anyone who wants to explore the wider Devon area. Tavistock and Honiton are good areas to look at for those wanting to get the most out of their trip.
The Loft Apartment at the Old Kennels is a good option, it’s in the middle of nowhere and yet is central to everywhere! Only half an hour from the beach, the city of Exeter and of course the attractions in between. Spend some time at Coldharbour Mill and learn about the wool industry in the region or get out and about with nature at the Bear Trail. The kids will enjoy one of the local animal attractions, like Wildwood Escot and the parents will love relaxing at the Ducks Ditty Bar in Tiverton.
Another mid-Devon B&B that’s close to outdoor attractions is Lee Byre in Oakhampton. This award winning bed and breakfast even has exclusive dinner options for guests and highlights a simple, rustic décor which creates the perfect atmosphere. If the guided walks which are offered as part of your stay aren’t enough, Roadford Lake is only four miles away and gives you the chance to create your own adventures either by bike, foot or at the activity centre.
