The University of Liverpool has done new research that reveals the healthiest and unhealthiest places in the UK to live. The researchers looked at several criteria including lifestyle and environmental measures as well as access to amenities and health services.
The study found that the healthiest place to live was Great Torrington in North Devon. In the study, it found that the small market town has low levels of pollution, good access to parks and green spaces, few retail outlets that may encourage poor health-related behaviours and good access to health services.
All the other top 10 healthy places to live were located in Scotland. By contrast, the research found that Soho in West London had the greatest access to unhealthy opportunities such as fast food outlets, pubs and off licenses, high level of air pollution and low levels of parks and green spaces.
The findings of the study was presented to the International Medical Geography Symposium on 1st July.
