Following a meeting of the North Devon Marketing Bureau, Jane Cook, of Pickwell Barton Holidays set herself the challenge of making her holiday cottages as accessible as possible. To help in this task, she teamed up with Tony Potter, one of the North Devon Marketing Bureau’s board members and an accessibility champion who has been working with companies across North Devon to make them as accessible as possible.
Pickwell Barton Holidays boast several award-winning holiday cottages in a stunning location, nestled majestically between Putsborough and Woolacombe and just a stone’s throw from Croyde. This area of Devon is perfect for those that want to be outdoors and enjoying the beautiful landscape and beaches and now with the commitment Jane and the team have made to accessibility, there is now even more choice of accommodation for visitors with accessibility needs.
Jane said: “Accessibility does not always mean wheelchairs – it’s for all ages and abilities, we’ve thought about dimmer lights, lever taps and aids, like a step and hand rail to access into the showers and added a seat.
“Tony helped me enormously, not only with the cottages, but also with the creation of accessibility guides. One of our cottages, Pickwell Court, has two ground floor bedrooms, shower and bathroom, country kitchen, spacious lounge with level access to the patio and ramps into the concrete yard where a car can be parked easily accessible and onto a gentle sloping lawn.”
These guides are now available on Pickwell Barton’s website and also at https://www.accessibilityguides.org/content/pickwell-court
https://www.accessibilityguides.org/content/pickwell-barton-cottage each guide highlights the accessible facilities available at the two cottages.
Updating these guides and thinking about how to be more accessible wasn’t a difficult task for the team at Pickwell Barton, but these little touches will make the world of difference to guests with additional needs wanting to have a good time in this area of Devon.
Jane said: “Just the little things can have a profound impact and enable our guests to have the best holiday possible.”
