This year marks the 26th Mid-Devon Show so if you’ve never been, now is the time to do it! This award-winning, family friendly event is full of things to see and do from 9am until closing and is the perfect chance to experience a true celebration of mid-Devon. The show mixes entertainment, food and drink, music and of course, farm life.
The show is huge and with there being so much to see and do, we’ve narrowed it down to a few events to help you plan out your day.
Spend some time at the Countryside Area
This area of the show is full of exhibits and demonstrations with everything from animals to local crafts. Make sure to catch the annual ferret racing and a chance to see Exmoor ponies as well as other shows, such as falconry, working dogs and horse displays.
Visit the Livestock Area
This is the place to be if you are interested in farming and agriculture. The livestock area is one of the largest shown at south west based farming shows. This is where local farmers compete against each other with their livestock, so if you’ve ever wanted to see different varieties of cattle, alpacas or pygmy goats, this is the part of the show for you.
The daredevils will want to head to the Main Ring
The Main Ring is where the majority of the main exhibitions will be taking place and this year is no exception, this year you can expect to see performances from Devils Horseman, Scurry Racing, pony club games, parades and more.
Cheer on some cute doggos
This year will see the inaugural family dog show taking place, if you have a dog, bring it along and enter it in the Fun Dog Show and be in with a chance to win a rosette in a whole host of categories. If you don’t have a dog, but you enjoy watching them have a jolly good time, make sure to carve some time in your day to watch them compete.
Eat some amazing local produce
A big draw at the Mid Devon show is the chance to sample food and drink from all over the south west with everything from locally made cider, cheese and ice cream to the more unusual fare. Whatever your favourite treat is, you’ll find it at the Food Marquee and with two public bars open for the whole day, there will be plenty of opportunity to try a local tipple.
And that’s not all…
As well as all these attractions, there are a number of other smaller displays and exhibitions going on, you’ll also find stalls from local organisations set up around the event and shopping opportunities. Keep your eyes peeled for the classic cars and vintage tractors, which are always popular, as well as the flower and garden marquee which is a must visit for anyone who loves their plants.
This is just a small selection of the activities you can take part in at the Mid Devon Show! Are you planning to go along this year? Share your thoughts and photos with us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
