It’s no surprise that we all want Devon to remain in its natural beautiful state, so obviously every care is being taken to reduce carbon footprints and to be as eco-friendly as possible, which is why there are a number of businesses in the region that are working hard to give you everything you would expect from your visit, but without having to sacrifice the planet.
There are a number of accommodation providers offering stays that are as eco-friendly as possible.

One option is going camping at Roadford Lake Camping. You have a number of options from electric and non-electric pitches, as well as a variety of onsite activities all set in the beautiful Devon countryside, just a short drive from Dartmoor National Park. It is a great choice for those who want to join in with green tourism. You’re right on Roadford Lake, where you’ll find a whole host of activities for all the family.

If you like the idea of being out in the open but not so much the idea of traditional camping, take a look at Bovisand Beachside Holiday Park, a unique 4 star Gold award winning beachside park that market themselves to the eco friendly traveller. Guests have access to a range of accommodation options, as well as the onsite facilities, including the indoor swimming pool, sauna and children’s play area. Staying here puts you only seven miles from the centre of Plymouth and yet, you’re in the middle of the beautiful countryside. Nearby you’ll find the National Marine Aquarium, the UK’s biggest aquarium and an Ocean Conservation Charity dedicated to connecting the public with conservation efforts in British oceans. The adults in your party might also want a trip to Plymouth Gin for a cheeky tipple or two! Being so close to Plymouth means you have a range of great food options, but one place to check out is Bistrot Pierre located in the centre of the Royal William’s Yard.

In the English Riviera, you’ll find the Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish. This family owned hotel is situated in 19 acres of woodland and overlooks the sea and the Exe Estuary. Staying in Dawlish means you can visit the nature reserve and beaches in nearby Dawlish Warren, as well as spot some of the only black swans to be found in the UK. You’re also close to Teignmouth and Torquay, where there are plenty of attractions and activities, as well as being conveniently being on the main rail line, so you won’t have to use your car to explore. If exploring by a different mans of transport appeals to you, take a look at Stuart Line Cruises who launch from a variety of nearby locations. The kids (and the arty!) among you will love spending time at the Paint Hub and World of Country Life where several activities and workshops are held all year around.

To the east of the county, you can not only enjoy walking among the fossils at the Jurassic Coast and the many amazing sights of the East Devon Area of Natural Beauty, but you can also be sure of an eco-friendly stay at Higher Wiscombe. Choose one of their cottages and wake up every day to stunning rural views and have a whole host of home from home comforts at your finger tips. Visitors who want to spend some time at some of Devon’s top attractions will find family friendly places like the Donkey Sanctuary on the doorstep, as well as the historic Beer Quarry Caves.
The people of Devon really pride themselves on their eco-friendly attractions and accommodation providers, so be sure to check our our eco-friendly Devon pages to see what else is on offer in the region.
